Corrupt .wire file

I was working on a .wire file all day.. And i saved it multiple times in the process.. I did not create new files.. I just kept saving on the same file replacing the data (as i usually do). When trying to reopen the file, Alias brings up a dialogue box saying that the file is corrupted and that alias cannot open this file ..

Is there any way i can retrieve my data?

Please do help.

This is why I always save numbered iterations instead of overwriting.

How large is the corrupt file?

If the file is zero (or close to it) in size, you're going to be out of luck.

If it is the "correct" size, you can try turning off some Open options like Keeping Windows or Layers, etc.  You can also try an earlier version of Alias; this does sometimes work.

You can also try to covert it at the command line to some other format; slim chance, but worth a try.  If it does work, you will lose History but that is still better than nothing.

Lastly, someone at Alias may be able to decode the data for you.

During the beginning stages of a project, while making all the primary surfaces, I also save numbered iterations...

But towards the end, once the volume is fixed and detailing starts, thats when i start over writing.

The file is still the same size(around some 60mb).I tried having all the options off and importing the file  no luck.

I use alias 2016.. I tried opening it in the latest version(2019.1).. Its showing the same message. I think the only option will be to get someone in alias to retrieve the data(and that will take some time) ..i think ill just redo 😔

Thanks for taking the time to give a reply.

Did you let someone else try to open the file on his machine? If that works, maybe resetting preferences would be a thing.

Unfortunately, no more quick ideas here... Good luck with it!

Once the file got corrupted, I tried opening it in a friend's pc (with the latest version installed)... But it was showing the same message. Looks like im out of luck. I've started redoing.

Appreciate you taking the time to give a reply

Hi, Would you be able to share the file? The development team could then try to open it and see where the corruption is happening.

Regards,

Joe

same problem in 2021 version. I am replying since there is a ready discussion on this and someone out there I believe would be able to help. The file is 27MB, but its a lot considering the efforts I have put in it.

The only way to assist in this case is for you to share the wire file...If you send it via private message it will not be shared with the community...
