Structural member import from Revit to Advanced Steel

Structural member import from Revit to Advanced Steel

Many of the buildings we detail are wood and steel structures on cast-in-place concrete foundations.  A very significant amount of those structures are modeled by the Architect and/or structural engineer in Revit.  What is extremely frustrating is that many of the structural elements will not import into Advance Steel.  You have to re-model them in Advance Steel!!!  ugh...

One of the most glaring omissions is wood members.  We routinely have wood to steel or steel to wood connections (beam to beam or column to beam). Autodesk claims it can transfer Timber Beams from Revit to Advance Steel, but we have not had any luck with this transfer.

I dont understand why wood members cannot transfer, they are simple rectilinear elements and they can be modeled in Advanced Steel.  So the lack or interoperability is a little confusing.  Also, concrete walls (foundations) do not transfer well.  Wall joins, wall voids, ledges are often messed up or  completely omitted.

Autodesk has improved connections transfer greatly in 2018 but the lack of transfer ability of the other elements is lacking greatly.
