REBRAND MASTER & SLAVE PROMPT TO PARENT & CHILD

REBRAND MASTER & SLAVE PROMPT TO PARENT & CHILD

Hello:fettes_Häkchen:

Graitec is a multicultural company consisting of employees from an ethnicity of peoples from all nations and colors around the world.

Likewise, we have vast multicultural clients.

In lieu of current media concerning  racial issues and a respect for our clientele, might I advocate rebranding master for Parent and slave for child for the prompts when using "Create joint in a joint group," toolset in Advance Steel.

This is a change long time coming and would be great to see it implemented in the next release/ fix or update.

Why not immediately!

Our clients’ needs always comes first.

Kind regards,

Janet

if you could concentrate on command for steel modeling/Bug Hunt/Steel detailing, it would be better

instead of making un-wanted changes.

@acbsdesign may be agree.

there is enough idea on this board to get work until the end of time and before renaming slave/master functionnality.

Correct, plenty of good ideas waiting for so long.

I am afraid if they change them the entire interface may turn grey, project explorer may stop working or model browser may be completely gone.

Keep your fingers crossed.

Thanks to all who participated.

I am happy to announce that I received and email from Gernot Jeromin,

Structural Steel project manager at Autodesk. He is aware of my request.

The  changes will be implemented in the next release of of Advance Steel.

I feel that his is a positive step forward for Graitec products.

I have created a blog & video which marketing has and in the interim before it is posted, when performing

Fundamental training of Advance Steel, I will show the participants how to change the prompts within the databases.

Thank you again Gernot Jeromin for moving forward on enhancement of Advance Steel.

Just a few remarks:
Changing a few prompts will not do it ... unfortunately.

@acbsdesign and @AntDrt are right, there is some risk in doing it.

I would also not say we are going to switch to "parent" and "child", because someone could be offended as well.

There are areas are still not clear as well: Master table.

"I feel that his is a positive step forward for Graitec products..."

Did Graitec buy Advance Steel back?

When?

AS is not a Graitec's product anymore.

And I am glad to say this, having the worst ever experience with a vendor/reseller.

Head joint and family of joints

”add joint to a family”

”remove joint from a family”

”make joint a Head joint”

Or Main and Secondary

just a guess...

Thanks for taking the time to comment and offer recommendations Mr. acbsdesign Advisor

That is a respectable idea and certainly another choice.

I have tested it and the prompts carried across to the Internal BOM on Drawings, additionally in the Search filter.

The changes I made in Advance Steel 2021 2021 Management Tools are as follows;

The prompt Is Parent and Is different from the Parent also The Child joint is different from the Parent. Do you want to separate it?

During training I have had no issue thus far and I will definitely reach out to you if a problem should arise.

However, when typing joint in the Use filter>Joints Subcategory >General, In the PropertyName column,

I wonder if:

Head joint and family of joints

”add joint to a family”

”remove joint from a family”

”make joint a Head joint”

might cause an issue with the word nomenclature in the Property name  in Advance Steel Management Tools.

Your thoughts are always welcome.

Kind regards,

Janet

Could be that we go for "Primary" and "Secondary" ..., we will see.

“Leading joint” or “Leader Joint” vs “Secondary”

”Ruler joint” vs “Secondary”

@acbsdesign Sounds good.

Thanks for the suggestion!

Come on people. GO TO WORK.

When will this nonsense stop. Don't give it attention. Otherwise we need to change everything.

This can be painful for others,

non-sense or reasonable, our opinion is ours, not everyone else's,

so being respectful to people with different views is the least we can do.

joint is the same as a marihuana smoke, maybe we should try to find another word for it.

Now if you see the word you are thinking on smoking wiet.

I have never used this crap, and I will never do.

To make it short: we will make reasonable modifications.

Please don’t waste development hours on this, there are more pressing issues with the software that need to be addressed.

I gave this a lot of thought. My knee-jerk reaction was that this would be to please some overly sensitive people. And I know that in our current social climate this is the norm.  Then after my eyes came back from rolling into my head I gave it more thought.

"Master-Slave" OR "Parent-Child" is not appropriate for this particular situation. Parent-Child makes perfect sense for stuff like Dimension Styles. You have a Parent style that sets many rules. Then you have a Child dimension that can accept most of the rules but has some exceptions. So they are NOT identical, similar to human Parent-Child relationships.

Master-Slave makes perfect sense in some tech/hardware situations where one process controls one or several other processes.

What we have here in this situation is A "Master-Copy" situation.  Similar to having a master document and then making copies of it. If you change the "Master" then you make new copies. I suggested "Master-Clone" to a coworker, but then she said in 20 years when clones exists it may be offensive, so "Master-Copy" is probably better :zwinkerndes_Gesicht:

For what it's worth, in this wiki article about this topic, nowhere did they mention "Parent-Child" as a possible alternative to this terminology.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Master/slave_(technology)

This topic is really on the border of topics I try to stay away from in a forum related to my job. Either way, I hope AutoDesk has enough sense to research this topic fully and come up with a logical conclusion.  I don't think "Parent-Child" is the right choice.

Hi,
we have "re-branded" it in Advance Steel 2022.

Best regards,

Gernot
