Link Cameras to Queries and Groups

Link Cameras to Queries and Groups

HI,

It is not unusual for people to want a GA view that does not include all the parts in the area. For example maybe they want to show just "Lot 1" or just some railings. Another  example would be a 3D view of just a portion of a structure or just a joint.

In each case we have two choices currently:-

1) Use a camera which is cropped as tight as possible but includes some extra neighbouring parts. OPen the resulting drawing and manually delete the unwanted parts. This is fiddly and time consuming.

2) Use a drawing style base on selected parts. The  trouble is if the railing updates and gets an extra post or such like the view will NEVER update properly to show these new parts.

Neither of these methods is really ideal. Especially in the case of showing one lot or phase where the contents of that lot might be more likely to change than some other examples (such as a part changes from Lot2 to Lot1).

So my idea is that Cameras can be linked to Saved Queries and Groups in Project Explorer. So the camera automatically only includes objects that match the query or group.Groups are a bit manual and can be fiddly but give the user ultimate control. Saved queries would be very powerful; especially for lots and phases etc.

Thank you for this idea.

We will take it in consideration for our future roadmap.

I think this is a brilliant idea.

It would make it so easy to create views showing only the items that you want.

A very good idea, but to benefit everyone should be at drawing style level rather than (or as well as) for cameras.

Many users (myself included) do not use cameras for creating overview drawings.

It is very time consuming compared to just setting the UCS and creating a drawing view.

...and the camera processes rarely put relevant views together on the same drawing requiring views to be moved from one drawing to another.

Far quicker and easier creating GA drawings without cameras in my opinion.

I have used the software for 16 years and given both methods a good run!

...so when creating an overview drawing view (without a camera or process) the dialog could have the option here for selecting a particular query etc.

Congrats! We think this is a great idea, so we've decided to add it to our roadmap. Thanks for the suggestion!
