Fix Detailing Dialogue once and for all

Fix Detailing Dialogue once and for all

This software is being for many years on the market and I find it completely disappointing not having a decent dialogue window, despite of all changes, it got actually worst.

1. Please fix the Single Sheets on the left to show only SP dwgs

2. Please make Multi Sheets on the left to show only MP dwgs

3. Please make New category-Erections drawings

4. Please show the last dwg used ALWAYS on top by default, so we do not have to search 300-500 dwgs for the last one

5. Please allow modifying the detail title DURING detail creation-example-"View at Grid Line A" to be entered when detail is created

@DumitruBerteanu and all dev's,

Please have a look at this dialogue and let  me know if what I say does make sense.

Currently this dialogue DOES NOT MAKE ANY SENSE.

Completely agree.

...and particularly point 5

Much as my post:

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/advance-steel-ideas/new-create-detail-dialog-still-in-as2018-and-stil...

...and we still have this pointless initial dialog box in AS2019.

It was far better how it used to be before AS2017.1 - at least we could change the title back then.

We have had functionality removed and 2 years later still waiting for it to be put back.

Why the hell was it changed in the first place and why the hell has it not been restored???????

New Driver, this one doesn't know the what is right and what is left.

There's a *lot* more to dialogs and other UI than just a picture.  Changes can easily be driven by other requirements than user request.  While there may be attempts to keep things as they were that's not always possible.

Older UI content may be built with old technology which means it has to be replaced to move forward.  Not replacing it, or restoring the original, can mean possible problems: not supported on new OS, or 4k/UHD monitors, or not capable of working with the required data, are just a few of the examples that spring to mind.

In the process of updating to new components, code that exploited holes or permitted loose design practices may be closed, resulting in loss of features.

Currently this dialogue is far from being practical,

how hard is this for them to understand that is it not done right, it does not work better that the old one,

and having single sheets and multi sheets tree on the left is useless from detailing point of view-these have to be SP, MP and Erection dwgs.

@dgorsman

Thank You for explaining us that there is a lot more than a picture, we probably know that there is other side of the moon already.

We are paying thousands of dollars each year, what we expect is just A LITTLE BIT of understanding from the other side, because this dialogue is not done right.

Whoever changed it this way, should be fired right on the spot.

6. When Assigning an EXISTING dwg as destination dwg, and getting back to Detail Box modification, it causes destination dwg not to be valid anymore, and sends the detail to the next in numerical order.

Seriously-whoever did it this way should be fired right on the spot.

Also add ability to create groups in there. For example, I'm doing many stairs for a school. If we could group drawings and apply a mass change to all sheets in that group like change approval status or prototype it would help shave off precious time.

Add another checkbox in the dialog to automatically update labels or update automatically when moving a detail from one sheet to another. Of course I need the label updated! Of course I want the material list to get updated! Why make me click on another process? Reducing mouse clicks reduces time :grinsendes_Gesicht_mit_lächelnden_Augen:

Well said, Mark,

Revit does renumbering of section views and details automatically, it is so well done.

@DumitruBerteanu

There will be an increase of Civil infrastructure projects in the very near future.

Using of detailing processes in bridge detailing is very limited, if used at all. Bridge detailing has its own rules.

Currently this dialog window does not work at it should be for both bridges and building steel.

Generating section views and elevations is slow due to lack of coordination between location in model where the section / elevation is done and the destination drawing, or when sending section views from one drawing to another.

We enter everything manually-Section view number+destination dwg, on the destination dwg-section view+main drawing. Changing a drawing number or name will get us back to changing it manually.

Please consider improving this and make it work the way it works in Revit.

Ilko, I agree with your comment regarding the "Select Destination File" dialogue box, "Existing Drawings" tab. Sorting them by single view drawings and multi view drawings makes no sense. What you have suggested is how it should be. Thanks.

Thank you, John, for the support.

The document manager should reflect the folders that are created in the details folder, so drawings can easily be sorted.  Also an option to sort by rev number, date modified and date created, would be advantageous.

The status in the model should be replicated in the in the document manager, and when a status is changed the "drawing" (detail) should not need to be updated but possibly the label require an update, as to avoid the force update on a drawing and affect the dimensions.
