Document manager improvements

I would like to see document manager improved to include the following:

• Ability to open several drawings at once.
• Dialogue should remain after opening a drawng so that additional files can be selected without having to search everytime. At the very least, it should remember the last file you opened (similar to the std open dialogue).
• Should have an option to consider "only displayed" and "only selected" objects (particularly useful in large projects with lots of partial issues!).
• Batch plot improvements (would like an option to control the plots and even plot to multiple devices from document manager). Understand publish works well, but it forces the user to process the files twice by having to select them in document manager first (revision update) and the re-selecting in publish (plotting). Very cumbersome, especially in projects with thousands of drawings. Not to mention the possibility of error in selecting drawings...

Hi,

Those are some nice ideas. Until they are fulfilled one day you CAN open multiple files at once with Document Manager.

With Doc Man open select multiple files in the tree on the left using shift or control just like normal Windows Explorer. Then click Open Drawing on the right and all selected files are opened.

Yes, I've since found out about opening several files at once. I've also noticed that DM does also default to the last file opened...

The rest is hopefully being considered.

Issuing drawings is a bit of a nightmare. You have to process everything twice!! Why would you not be able to revise and plot from the same process?? And, model explorer is happy to only show displayed parts, why not DM?

Hello, 

1. It will be very helpful if we can rev. down all dwgs at once. (delete last revision for all dwgs in one only dialog window without the need to select each dwg and rev it down)

2. It will be also very helpful if we can print + combine with one command / option in DM  selected documents in PDF, keeping the alfabetical and or numerical order when combining.

It is necessary to have so many search filters in document manager because drawing Management of advance is very poor.in a large project We waste our lots of time in drawing managemet .we have to select drawings one by one in document manager /detail folder for each operation(like print to add in batch plot,open, specified drawings that sending today and other so many other operations ) and every time again and again.
I have a idea that How can we add search filers
In advance.
1)search filters should be predefined and should be managed by dropdown list.
2)following types of search filters should be available in advance steel.
A)all drawings
B)all general arrangement drawing.
C)all assemblies
D)all single parts
E)update required
F)selected assemblies with part(current selection in model)
G)selected main part drawing
H)selected part drawing
I)all deleted drawing
J)by approval status
k)by revision and revision date.
By this way we can manage the detail drawing Better than any other detailing software

An idea for the current Document manager, while the eagerly anticipated (expected) new Document manager is being designed.  

With the current Document manager it would be advantageous to allow it to remain open in the background while you are within detail drawings and the DM only re-update the detail drawing status of the drawings that were edited, and not recheck the entire set of drawings.

Currently, when a drawing is opened from within the manager, the dialog box closes and needs to be reopened every time which invokes a recheck all of the drawings.

I hope this could be a possible addition/inclusion to the next AS2017 patch.

Ps: Please do not suggest disabling the check status within the DM, as this is the point of the Document manager to ensure/check all drawings are current and reflect what is in the model.

Another item for the developers would be, if we could at least sort the drawings within the folder by date modified as well as by name. This would allow us temporarily to sort the changed documents, and easily process them through the revision manager.

Its lengthy process of opening document manager when we want to work on multiple drawings.

It would be an advantage if document manager remains open after opening drawing so that we can quickly go for next drawing.

I know this has been requested before......not least of all by me...........but when are we going to be able to have the ability to select / group / organise drawings for selection by any of the numerous token available ie Lot-Phase.........Coating.........Model role.....Material.......it's pretty basic stuff that many clients want all the Columns first.........or maybe all the galvanised items first due to lead time.......some material is on extended delivery..........it's a bit painful with in excess of over 1000 drawings (Assemblies & Single Parts) to sort or manage manually.

It's unbelievable that issues like this haven't been addressed to date, yet time is wasted on what are completely unnecessary changes to areas like the new Drawing Dialog which is just a step back in time.

The whole Document Manager is in drastic need of an overhaul.......but ignoring requests won't make the problem go away.

Please fix document manager!

Not all jobs are small warehouses with one or two drawing submissions! We have jobs that require the management of at least 30/40 drawing submissions at different stages and the current system is making it a nightmare to track/control!

These are basic efficiency issues that users have to deal with everyday and IMO are the most important improvements that can be made. A simple button to "display only objects shown in model", similar to the model browser, would solve all (or at least most) of these issues! Being able to plot and revise drawings from the document manager at the same time (not having to select all the files twice) would also help!

Off topic, but with improvements to the groups structure and queries (again, great when you are dealing with one group or one query at a time. But, horrible when trying to show/hide several groups at once!), you could have a considerably improved management system!

These are items that have been requested by lots of different people over an extended period of time. Please fix...

Hi,
it's possible in Advance Steel to create automatic subfolders by creating a detaildrawing or by processes, that's great.
But why doesn't the Document Manager  show this folders?
For Example, I decided to create folders for my Singleparts (SP) and my Mainparts (MP), for overview drawings, cut view and so on.
So if I made my processes, it looks like this:

But my document manager look like this:

So it would be very nice, if we could see our subfolders in the documentmanager too. And then it would be also nice, to registrate and deregistrate complete subfolders.
