Document manager improvements

I would like to see document manager improved to include the following:

  • Ability to open several drawings at once.
  • Dialogue should remain after opening a drawng so that additional files can be selected without having to search everytime. At the very least, it should remember the last file you opened (similar to the std open dialogue).
  • Should have an option to consider "only displayed" and "only selected" objects (particularly useful in large projects with lots of partial issues!).
  • Batch plot improvements (would like an option to control the plots and even plot to multiple devices from document manager). Understand publish works well, but it forces the user to process the files twice by having to select them in document manager first (revision update) and the re-selecting in publish (plotting). Very cumbersome, especially in projects with thousands of drawings. Not to mention the possibility of error in selecting drawings...

Thanks for considering...

sorry the screencast was not complete 😃
but here is what I want to show:

  • I made a process for singleparts and proces by using the process suite
  • then 2 detail dwg exist
  • according to this one folder for singleparts (ET) and one for mainparts (HT) was created by Advance Steel
  • now it would be great to see this subfolders in the document manager

Another example on how Document Manager could be improved to assist users!

It seems to me that there have been several requests for improving the Document manager since Autodesk acquired Advance, yet not much has been implemented in as far as additional features?

Please stop the pain of having to wade through thousands of files unnecessarily! Furthermore, it's even more frustrating when, after having to go and find your files amongst thousands to revise the drawings, you need to do the whole thing again to plot them? 99.9% of the time, you want to do both at the same time...!

Hi,

I would like to have an extra folder in the project map.

The printed PDF would be store in this folder.

And the ability to control the filename, as well as flexibility in being able to print to PDF at the same time as revising drawings in a batch, not having to process drawings twice everytime!

I am working on a complicated job with nine key areas. I have numbered the assemblies using the Lot/Phase number so that I can see which assemblies belong to which key area. I have also grouped all components from each area so that I can isolate the area.

I created the drawings for each area - single part and assembly drawings and then created a sub-folder under Details in the project folder to separate out the drawings.

Everything is working great and as I would expect. The problem lies when I register the drawings back to the model in Document Manager - there are literally hundreds of drawings and if I so much as sneeze on the model some of the GA's need updating, various assembly drawings seem to need updating for no apparent reason. It is just difficult to manage hundreds of drawings.

It would be great if Document Manager could recognise the sub-folders I have created in the Details folder so that I can register the folders back to the model and the drawings remain in the folder in Document Manager. If a drawing - in a folder - needs updating, the folder will be tagged as such in Document Manager. Alternatively, the option to create sub-folders in Document Manager for managing large numbers of drawings.

Having been away from the pointy end of Advance Steel for some years I had forgotten how difficult drawing management can be when there are a large number of drawings - to give you an idea there are 399 plate drawings alone!

This is something we've all been reporting for years, but for some reason it does not get improved. In a similar vein, I've also requested a button to only load into document manager what's displayed in the model (similar to "current model view" button in model browser). Either way, folder structure or current model view (or dare I dream both), would go a long way to help managing large models.

These are absolute no brainers, regardless of votes...

To make things worse, after wading through over a thousand files to find the relevant drawings to revise, we need to do it all over again to plot!

I would like to be able to adjust certain properties of drawings from within the DM. Using the example of selecting multiple drawings to "change prototype", I would like to be able to change the scale of multiple drawings and the detail style of multiple drawings. Everything you see as you open the levels of the tree you should be able to adjust from within DM. The DM has the potential to be a very powerful tool. Lets make it one.

Right Click to plot listsRight Click to plot lists

Hello,

We can plot drawings from document manager, but we cannot plot lists from document manager.

Please add an option to plot them from the document manager.

Batch plot the revised drawings by selecting all at once, not click on each would be very very helpful.

? you could slect more then one detail by using the CTRL key and then use "add to batchplot":

That's easy to do
