Deploy secondary development teams in each country requiring customization

Deploy secondary development teams in each country requiring customization

Hello,

It will be far more easier for the users if every major country based installation was coordinated by a team in the respective country.

for example-a small highly qualified team in USA knowing detailing in deep to make drawing styles, listing, numbering, defaults in MT, joints, object presentation etc. in the same country where the software will be used.

There are hundreds of things that are missing when development is done abroad, and if someone is far from what the customers want, things just do not happen. In other words, echoing over the big lake silence the user-developer dialogue.

And in most cases-developers do not understand or partially undesrtand what the user is asking for. In many cases they ADVISE that this is not important now, thanking for the idea, and the case is closed. Or it will be considered somewhere in the future.

If a developer has never been in a real steel fabricator's / detailer's position, this does not help even if an user spends a few hours per week asking / explaing what is hot to be changed.

If there is a way for additional $$ to be contributed by the user and a locally based developer to actually HEAR and DO what is necessary, it will get better return to the user. I think many detailers in USA (and not only in USA) will be happy to give a little bit more, but to get a higher quality of country based customization.

Hi,

for the reasons you are writing, as far as I know it is always a

User- Product management- Developer dialog in this industry.

The Product management (and there are porduct managers assigned to the various markets) is taking care of the user and market demands (new developments, enhancements, localizations, integration in other software etc), and is deciding which developments have priority, of course always depending on budgets. But I guess you know all that.

Of course what gets done is never enough.......!!!!! Never!!!! At least from the user's point of view.

If you need the software specialized and customized, there are some experts around who do that.

Hi Christian,

We are not talking about some super-customization, it is all about basic rules that are missing.

For example-a few months ago I did create tech support case to report that hatch in holes drilled in far side legs of angles,

or in web in beam for beam for beam top view shall not be shown.

Showing the hatch in angle automatically says to the shop personnel that this leg is near side. If the hidden line of the detail is not clear, detail scale is small, blue print is not clean-this is a workshop, not an office, the hole will be drilled / punched in the wrong leg.

Top view of beam shall not have holes in webs shown with hatches. These will be shown if beam is cut along a line along the web.

The response was-I am asking for custom dwg styles. I said-no, this is very basic, it is a common rule.

Look at GA dwg made with SDS/2- you will notice the difference. And this is because they understand the market here.

Labels' position, plate names per AISC, anchor bolts, base plate macro, more intelligent concrete filled pan stair macro typ for US, etc. -the SDS/2 users do not have to explain and ask for, they are ready done.
