Country Nomenclature Selection

Country Nomenclature Selection

I believe it would be very helpful to be able to decide, before you open a new drawing, what country you are working with. We only use American materials so having an option to have only American nomenclature present in lists would save a lot of time. For other companies, depending on what country the project is being built for, only that countries nomenclature would be present in the lists.

For example: If you were designing a building for a client in China, only Chinese materials would be present in the materials, grades, etc. lists.

There are other programs that can accomplish this already and having it possible in Advance Steel would make modeling a lot easier and potentially a lot more popular.

Thanks.

HI,

If I understand your idea correctly you can already do this.

You need to look at Management Tools > Preferred Sizes. This lets you set up a short list in most drop down lists. For example you can set your preferred beam groups, beam classes and beam sizes. In this way only US or UK or whatever section types appear on the short list with easily available sizes. If you want something else you have to point at word "ALL" at the bottom of the list and a full list of everything AS knows is presented to select from. In this way you are never prevented from picking anything in the system but it makes it faster to find the most used items.

Preferred size list

The items listed in the lower half of the Preferred sizes page under Preferred are the items that appear in the short list. If that box is empty you own;t get a short list you will just get everythign listed.Preferred size window

This can be done for many different lists.

I don't know what is set for the US install or others but for the UK install this is already configured out of the box to a sensible short list in all available categories.

I hope that helps.

Thank you for this idea. And thank you Aleck for providing the information about "preferred sizes" in Advance Steel. I think, this is one part of the solution.

Sometimes customers

- don't want to have all used items in the "preferred size" list on top

- in such cases the list under "all" is still too long and it isn't easy to find the necessary one.

So an option to hide "unused" items would be helpful. (???)

We will take it in consideration for our future roadmap.

best regards
