Copy with basepoint to copy from current UCS

Copy with basepoint to copy from current UCS

When using copy clip in Advance Steel, Autocad objects are copied from the current UCS whilst Advance Steel objects are copied from world UCS without considering the current UCS orientation.

This fault makes it very difficult to copy objects to be pasted into another drawing or within the same drawing where rotation is required. For example Perth stadium where a lot of repeated steelwork is rotated slightly around the football oval, or a chute where liners need to be copied and rotated to all sorts of angles. Advance copy and rotate cannot be used for these scenarios where rotation is not a simple angle.

I know there is a workaround where you have to create a block of the object to trick advance steel into thinking it is not an advance steel object but this can be time consuming and difficult to track what blocks you have exploded and purged.

Please can the developers fix this fault in Advance Steel so that copy clip can copy Advance Steel objects relevant to the current UCS?

Good idea Ryan, I mean Matt.

Hello Matt,

you can use the Allign commands, both for Advance Steel (Advance Copy feature) and AutoCAD.

Thanks for the tip Gabriele,

The align feature in advance copy can be very useful in certain situations, but it is quite time consuming to select the 3 ucs points for both original and destination locations. When you have to do this for multiple copies this time can add up.

Also this method does not work for copying between different models which we need to do all the time.

Agreed this is badly needed.

As a workaround, you can paste blocks and explode to AS parts after insertion...

Sorry, not very clear.

Create a block of what you want to copy, then paste that block where you want, then explode...

If you have some lisp knowledge, this is easily automated.

Thanks iwafb,

That's the workaround i was referring to in my 3rd paragraph.

Sorry Matt,

To be honest I was a bit rushed, so I read the heading and didn't pay too much attention  after that...

Still a good idea though...

Native funcionality would be great, but will never come close to what you can accomplish with Dynamo.
