Consider using different terminology for this

In general, I feel AS has problems with the terminology & icons it uses.  It makes the program more confusing than it needs to be.  That being said, maybe consider using a different symbol for activating anything in the Project Explorer.

That icon has been used in ACAD for turning layers on/off for as long as I can remember. It is a completely different function in the Project Explorer.  As my office is getting ready to use this I know this is something I will have to explain over and over again.

There are many more things on this forum I'd like to see implemented instead, but I'm tossing it out here anyway.

Hi @Julio_Soto,

in AutoCAD / Advance Steel/... this icon always has the same function - something will be turned on / off. It doesn't matter if they are layers or objects.  Therefore I don't see any problem with this :zwinkerndes_Gesicht:.

This icon is a kind of universal reference, similar to how other icons work, by association to a function, it implies it has the ability to turn something on or off, as with a light switch in the really world.

can see any reason to change this philosophy, after all it’s how modern computers interface started with original idea of icons many years ago.

In Prosteel there are "Model classes", I think it is more complete than the "Structures" of Advance steel.

It would be nice if there is an improvement in this.

fair points. I understand how it's working. It is activating a filter. In the context of AutoCAD, that symbol turns a layer on/off. I think simply change that symbol to a yellow circle would be less confusing. In the great scheme of things, this is a very minor issue for me lol.

@johnjmbennett you say "This icon is a kind of universal reference".  I find this interesting, but I don't think I've ever run across this symbol in any of the software I've used. But if you've seen it, I'll take your word for it :zwinkerndes_Gesicht:
