Clash Check management 2

Clash Check management 2

Hi,

just a few notions with my understanding how clash checks are done internally.

and what can be done

I do not know if the Advance Clash test is based on AutoCAd functions or if it is genuine Advance code

Procedure:

  • basically a clash test tests 2 parts.
  • but you have selection sets of parts that you want to clash check.
  • (you could test parts in one selection against the parts in another selection etc)
  • So there is the option to test types of parts against other parts
  • In AutoCAD the first step would be to check if bounding box interefere. A bouding box is the WCS box that circumscribes a part.
  • If that happens then autocad will check if the parts have a common volume and get that.
  • So you always get as data the 2 parts involved and the clashvolume as a solid. The clashvolume has a size.

Options:

  • Define what parts to check depending on their role or location or other filter definitions- Parts against parts, bolts excluded, Groups against groups but not parts inside a group etc, as input to the test.
  • Define relevant volumes depending on roles- for clashes of bolts with parts the relevant volumes are smaller than for clashes of parts with parts.
  • Clashes inside of groups will usually get detected in production an are less relevant than clashes detected on site.
  • Clashes between groups will get detected on site and are very relevant.
  • etc.

Display:

  • Display of parts and there clash bodies depending on the type of part, role, relevance etc.
  • Hide parts and their clash bodies.
  • That is what is talked about in the previous post about Clash testing.
  • That is only a post filter function for display after all the calculation is done
  • The data is there so there can be a lot more options for display

So I think the clash testing could have a lot more features, options and functions.

But the coolest additional feature would be to have an add layer to shrink wrap function for parts and use that for clash checks.

In plant design you always have security distances or distances to allow tolerances in production and set up and use.

With an add layer to shrink wrap function the clash test could be used to check if these defined distances are met.

Go for at Advance!
