Add a “View direction on object” DSM option that uses corners/vertices of a joint box/connection frame or camera to achieve an automatic isometric view style.

I’d like a way to set a drawing style view to automatically create an isometric view of an assembly without the user adjusting the UCS.

So in essence the drawing style could use the connection frames (Joint box) vertices to automatically set the view as isometric without user input (please see image #1).

If there was an option in the DSM under “View direction on object” (Image #2) to look positively down across corner vertices you could automatically create an isometric view!

In image #1 the green line connecting vertex 1 and vertex 8 could be the positive Z axis of the view.

As of right now I understand there is no way to get an automatic isometric view of an assembly without user input.

I have a style set up that works (image #3) but I have to:

1.) set SE view on the view cube

2.)then UCS set to screen

3.)then run the drawing style.

While this is fine it is NOT automatic and cost me department valuable time.

We can never truly automate an assembly set of drawings. We have to do a few drawings and then switch the ucs and do a few more etc etc.

To truly automate this (set it and forget it) something like this would be required.

Please consider this to allow your customers to make fully automatic isometric assembly details.

Great idea V! This would be so helpful.

For my opinion. I think one idea for doing this could be to set a default for a rotation degree.
Many user have different point of views, which is the best view to be "isometric". So in my opinion it would be great to have a default for example: "degree of rotation for isometric view".

This should be the rotation degree value for rotate the view from the "main view". if you set the degree to 60, this means:

take the mainview, rotate it with 60 degree in one orientation and then in the second orientation: it's a bit hard to describe.  Here are two pics:

Or maybe better, think about you have an existing camera which show the front of the beam. You need two steps of rotating to use the same camera for a isometric view.
