Welding lenght and visibility settings.

Hello. I would like to draw a 3d truss grider made of round bars. I have a pretty complicated node because of the radius of the bars. I want to make welded connections without the gusset plate. To do so I cut the bars to that they fit to each other very neatly:

Now I want to make a welding between them. I tried to use weld point function and then selecting the red lines intersection. The cross indicating that there is a connection showed, but on no of the view options, the welding was visible.

Another thing is that I would need to know the exact lenght of the weld which would be the lenght of the cut bar edge. Is there a way to get to know it?

Try using the truss macro, it is pretty neat tool will a lot of parameters....shapes, dims, welds, etc....

HI,

Advance Steel never models weld beads so you will only ever see a cross to indicate where welds are in the model. In the drawings the system is generally set to NOT label standard welds. In the UK Build standard welds default to 6mm Fillet welds. These are not labelled to avoid hundreds of weld labels in every drawing. Instead a note says "All welds 6mm Fillet Unless Noted Otherwise". If you change the size or type the weld should be labelled automatically or you can play with the Defaults to show standard welds (search for weld).

To get the weld length is not possible on a curve in AS. You can type the length into the weld properties box if you work it out yourself. The only other alternative is to use the Weld Line command instead of Weld Point: that draws a straight weld between two points and fills in the length of that line automatically. The weld length is written on the weld symbols automatically. No weld with a length completed is considered standard and hidden as above.

I hope that helps.

Thank you for replying. I managed to measure the aproximate lenght of the bar edge by making a 3D Polyline on the edge.
