understanding BOM field labels

One of our biggest struggles with AS is understanding how to determine the cells the BOM field and/or column labels relate to. Unlike an Excel spreadsheet, where the heading/labels are clearly defined and are easy to work with, the BOM labels in AS seem to be a jumbled mess and are all over the place. Even multiple labels seem stacked on top of each other or  label far to the right controls cells far to the left and vise/versa.  Is there an easier explanation or maybe a screencast somewhere that could help us common users realize a better understanding...??

this is sometimes only a visual problem. If you for example move the fields you will see a little bit more =), they are not related to another.

But the BOM on drawing is nearly the same structure like the in the BOM Editor. You have a pageheader, groupheader and details area --> every head need a foot, so every "header" need a "footer" to close a "group".

I will take MP Structured list as an example:

You need the following groups (most likely):

1. REPORT HEADER

2. GROUPHEADER1

3. GROUPHEADER2

4. DETAILS

5. GROUPFOOTER2

6. GROUPFOOTER

If you need to create groups (start BOM from scratch)-first create the fields (boxes) and assign tokens or text.

To create a group: Type GROUP, NAME and give the name 1 through 6

If you work with an existing BOM:

Turn the group selection on or off:

Open group manager:

We can highlight the existing groups, remove them, delete them, rename etc:

We need to purge the dwg when deleting groups.

Below is the name of each group in red with groups moved up or down for clarity:

Below is a screenshot of a sample BOM using the above example:

In this example-sorting is done per phases, but you can change it to match your company's BOM.

Please keep in mind the list sorting and content:

I will attach the BOM for your reference.

Tokens in the fields can be a little bit weird.

Thanks guys. We will tinker with BOM fields some more. It still confuses us with all the tokens piled and stacked in one spot / column / cell / field or whatever the location is called... Maybe one day the realization will dawn on us
