Site Drill Bolts / Holes Presentation

I have a project where it was decided to site drill holes in base plates for the anchors.

I thought the Site Drill option in the bolt dialog was going to be the answer, but so far it is not doing what I was expecting.

I see that it doesn't put holes in the nc file, so that is good, but it leaves the holes on all shop drawings and part sheets. It has also removed the bolts from the bolt list BOM's.

Seems like part of it could be a DSM thing, so I've looked around, but no luck getting it to display as I would like.
There is a Bolts Site Drill, which I hoped would handle the hole as well, but it does not.
There is no "Holes Site Drill" available, and I've not seen any means of selecting the assembly location (Site Drill - Shop and Site are available in the filter, but not Site Drill) anywhere to create my own. Not sure how to create a new filter in DSM if that is even possible by the user.

My workaround right now is to set the anchors to Site (not Site Drill) so they show up in BOM's and to set the holes to Punch Marks, which our CNC ignores. Also set the Behavior of the bolts to ignore clashes.

Wondering if there is a better way and what exactly the purpose of the Site Drill setting is used for.

AS v2019 & 2021

Cheers - Rikki

Hi,

The way you handled punching marks was correct. At the moment it is not possible to get a special symbol for construction site drilling.

Some time ago I wrote an idea you can vote for this 🙂

Hi,

here I may have an idea for you.
If it is no problem for you to increase the hole clearance by 0.1 mm (only for holes that are to be drilled on site), there would be the possibility to use different hole symbols for special hole diameters.

Now a corresponding hole symbol must be created.

As a base I used the symbol file under the following folder:
C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\Advance Steel 2021\INT\Shared\Support\Symbols\h_D-any_T-any_TB_V.dwg
In this file simply add the arrow and save it under the names h_D-18.1_T-any_TB_SiteHole.dwg in the same folder.
Attention, in this example I use AS2021 the English International Version.

Now you can create an entry in the AstorBase in the Symbols table that holes with special diameters get a separate symbol.

The result then looks like this:

Hi,

I forgot one thing:

You also need to change the drawing style. Than it works 🙂
