Using Advance Steel 2023

I have a project where one of the components is a 3/16" THK pan (12"X12" Square with 2" turned up sides). I lay out the parts flat and use the "Create Folded Plate - without Position Adjustment" and I get the results as shown in the attached video capture. The turned up side is the correct distance of 2", but the corners look pretty bad. Am I supposed to figure out how the corners are to look before the bend? This is where I need an expert on this subject, and what are the design calculations for these pre-bent corners. I was expecting (dreaming) that Advance Steel would automatically generate the correct bends. Thanks for any help.

hi,

so I would initially take a look at this AKN page, also the links on that page give further explanation to the elongation methods applied in AS.

The default standard is DIN bending formula,  and the user can control the development length by use of the elongation table method, changing settings and creating entries in that database table.

Hi @advandes,

I thought you had the Powerpack?

Try using the Folded Plate macro.

For me the developed size is the inside dimension, so if you wanted your outside to be 12" square with 2" outside bends in 3/16" sheet the developed size would be 1 13/16"+11 5/8+ 1 13/16", bending with the correct size tooling.

This works OK up to until you start getting thicker plate.

Hi Mick,

I do have the PowerPack. I just tried using that, and it looks like I get the same results, but I like how you can start with a single plate, rather than 5 parts. I will play around with it more to see if I can get better looking results. Thanks!
