Round hole through square hollow section

How to create hole that goes through both walls of hollow section?

I only manage to make a hole that goes through one wall only. I need to add holes twice.

With bolts it is easy, but I only need a hole.

Hi Priitl,

Here is the current implemented behavior:

  • When place a hole on a flange - an I section flange or the wall of a hollow section - the hole affects that flange only
  • When place a bolt that go through both flanges / walls of the section, two holes are created - one for each flange / wall

If you want to use a single feature that creates "holes / openings" for the entire section, you could use a "Circular contour ..." processing instead. 

Please see attached picture and 3D model, where I have shown these cases.

Hi, 

if you need create holes on both sides you need to use comand with number 2 on picture that I attached

There are many ways to create a hole all the way thru a tube.  The question is how you want it represented and if you want to do manual work on your details to make it look right.

 

  1. You can do the circular contour, but it won't get labeled or shown like a hole does.  It does not get hatched in the detail or listed like one.  You would have to do both manually, unless someone else has figured out a way.
  2. You could use a Blind Hole and set the depth the same or greater than the tube thickness.  This does get labeled like a hole, if your setup is set that way, but only the side with the symbol in the model will get hatched.
  3. You could just put a bolt in it and turn off the Finish Calculation at Gap option in the bolts dialog box.  Also, turn off all of its behavior and they won't get listed.  I have a model role called "Off" that I use for parts like this.  It will not show up in any of my drawing styles so I don't have to worry about them being visible in the general assembly drawings.  This option gets you the holes you want in any pattern needed.  They show up in the details the way you want them to look and they are labeled correctly.
