Rod with threaded end connection

Anyone know how to join two beams with a round bar that is threaded at each end?

 

All the wind brace macros seem to use those round brackets, which i dont want.

I don't think this is possible as a connection. This is something that I have asked for on the Ideas forum that has been marked for Future Consideration. The option to create a threaded rod or put a thread on the end of a rod would be very useful, as well as the option to add a nut and/or a  nut and washer washer at a location.

 

The way I do this is create a nut in AutoCad as a special part, ensure you have a top and bottom point added for insertion. Insert into Advance as a Special Part. Create the rod as a round bar and give it a descriptive nmae in the Naming tab of the rods properties. Drill the holes in the members, place the nuts and you have what you require.

 

I have had many projects where a nut needed to be welded to a beam underneath as well as threaded rod assemblies. It is something that other detailing packages do so there is a need for this to be added to Advance steel as well.

 

I hope there is an easier way to do this, if not give it a push on the ideas forum.

I had an idea on possibly using Rod bracing, but I'll need to investigate this further.

So, I was actually able to add Threaded Rod as a bolted connection through Management Tools. The trick is to uncheck the box that says "Finish at gap" or something like that. I'm not saying that making the threaded rod table was easy, but I did do it and it has been very helpful.

That's good, but wouldn't it be better if it was part of the bolt / hole / anchor tool as an option, say tie rod where you had a setting indicate fully threaded, thread one end or both ends and thread length. Also add an option for NaW, 2naW plus also add a nut to both sides of the gap if required.

The way I achieved it was to create a round rod beam and then use a parametric cut-out with clearance.

 

Not perfect, but it sort-of works. The main draw-back is that AS treats the hole as a cut-out, not a hole, which of course means that you cannot label the hole in your drawing.

Hi,

I have created user sections type: M16 DIN975, M20 DIN975 etc., just as a round bars made of steel 8.8 or any other added to the base.

Nuts and washers are special parts:

There's no automatic for this. The most use a round beam and add customer connections for the nuts and washer. You could use a self defined weld type for adding an automatic label for the threaded length. 

Another way could be to use the AG rod connection from the connection vault and change the specialparts in the databases to nut and washer soli ds . I knew a few are using special defined bolts or anchors, but the set s in the databases are limited to 6 pieces so you had to use specialparts for the nuts and washer to get the whole sets in some cases.

By using special parts, there is the problem with the bom list (special parts in the boot list). In the original installation you only had all or no special parts. But there's very nice knowledge for the xslt customizing...special parts with a specific role will be part of the bolt list.

Hi,

Further to other replies check out John Bennett's blog here Studding blog  for another suggestion. Obviously not infinitely variable (defined length rules only) but pretty close.You only have a fixed stud length on the "head" end too but you get full details in the BOMs and the nuts and washers are placed for you without needing special parts.

 

Not perfect but this works pretty well for most things.
