Query Operators

I'm not sure I'm asking this correctly but here it goes...

I'm trying to define a query which uses "OR" or "CONTAINS".

Lets say I need to query my model to select only ladders. These are elevator pit ladders and I have user attribute 1 specifying "Elevator P3" or "Elevator P4" etc. for each ladder depending on where it is located.

I have tried many ways to get this working. All these ladders contain the word "elevator" in user attribute 1. Is there any way someone has found to query based on whether "any" of the conditions are met?

Thanks,

Mark

...and fix the kiss export issues.

Hmm I would try a '*' but I think I know the result.

Maybe use another way to find it, I it's not the  best way to use everytime a workaround but if you know the limitations, you could change your workflow.

To use your example:

I would use the attribute 1 just for 'elevator' and then maybe attribute 2 for 'p4' and so on.

Now I could easy create query for my elevator and additional I could specify if I want it.

Hi @markhubrich,

Maybe you could try the AutoCAD "Quick select", using the Advance Steel properties:

As result, the elements will be selected and then you can add them also to marking.

One other idea: there are 10 User attributes. You could try using another one, with a common value for all "Elevator*" objects 🙂

Best regards,
Emy

maybe additional:

  • semicolon is still working, so if you have Elevator P3, Elevator P4, Elevator P5 your query could look like this:
  • Elevator P3;Elevator P4;Elevator P5
  • But there's no opportunity to use a "placeholder"

Hi @Sebastian_Eiche,

Hm, the "semicolon" does not work for Search Filter - User attributes on my side.

Are you using it for queries in the "User attribute" fields or somewhere else ?

Could you please share your test model and saved query ?

Thank you very much

Emy

Hi @Sebastian_Eiche

It does not work for User attribute because the User attribute field was specifically implemented to accept any text. So the query cannot distinguish between a semicolon - as part of text from a semicolon - as separator.

Cheers

I understand that this is maybe not possible because of the declaration of this property (text string or something like that), but there should be the possibility to create such filters. I think maybe by an extra ordinary combination of characters like: *#;#* or something like that

Hi @Sebastian_Eiche

This sounds like a very good idea !

Maybe you could post it on the Advance Steel Idea Station portal ?

It would be helpful for many users / projects.

Best regards,
Emy

hi....if you create a query for each attribute  or ladder name, you can then add all of them to a group and turn on/off that way. your drawing template could have all of those pre-defined, so would be just a matter of applying the attributes in the model. not a solution but a work-around per se.

Hi,

I posted the idea to incorporate scripting in all search functions a while ago. So far this idea got five votes!

Vote for it!

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/advance-steel-ideas/incorporate-scripting-in-all-selection-functions/...

Scripting allows to individualize functions in an extreme way. It does not allow anything due to the limitations and the flaws of the COM API, but still....
