I thought I'd share something I started doing that I hope will reduce time during the life of a project.
Shared views are great! Just after I plot an E drawing to PDF I reduce the model down to only what is shown on the sheet and create a shared view. After that processes and I get a link I take that link to this site and grab a png file of a QR code. I then past that on the drawing.

It's only been a few weeks since I started doing this. This particular set has 96 drawings. They left my hands and went to engineer for calcs. Today I got notification about markup engineer had left for a different set of drawings about increasing weld sizes in a few connections. 😍 I heard back from the engineer and they think it's less work for them and me to have that ability to view steel this way. As they are commenting, I am revising and issuing revised shop drawings to their folder. By the time they officially respond with any markups required for their stamp, I already took care of anything and had the package ready to go in for approval.
I haven't had any response from any approval entities yet. They're still getting used to Revit so it may be a while 😐
On the other hand, I have received feedback from Erectors. They all carry smart phones. Every single one of them was like, "WTF is this" and of course they had to scan it. Now I get all kinds of collaboration between us because it allows them to get a much more detailed view into what they are attempting to erect. Now I get requests from erector to color code that model based on different criteria like sequencing or shipping status. I also get less calls on the telephone 😄
I've been trying for years to get other parties involved in my 3D workflow but it wasn't going anywhere. This little QR code woke them up I guess.
