Projects Base Point for IFC export

Is there a way to change the origin point (or Projects Base Point) for IFC export? The architects sometimes have a whole different idea of the models 0,0,0 and coordinating this information... I know I can move the whole model to the architecture zero to match up in IFC model viewers, but moving large and complex AS models brings it's own problems to the table.

Hi @Delusory

From what I understand this isnt currently possible, when exporting to IFC for DWF to specific co-ordinates I have always had to save a copy of the model and use Transform Elements to move the model to the correct location. I have always done it in a copy of the model to avoid issues with numbering, clash checks and orbiting.

@markhubrich I think the BASE command only works when inserting that drawing as a DWG into another DWG.

It would be great if Autodesk could include the BASE option in the export to IFC, DWF etc

Base command unfortunately doesn't work for IFC export, nor changing UCS coordinates. IFC uses World coordinates.

As mentioned, it seems there is one way - to Move the model, which is time consuming (for my PC it took ~10-15mins to move and then again ~15mins to rotate semi large model).

In the past whenever moving a model for IFC / DWF export I always do this in a copy of the model, that way the original with all of the drawings stays unchanged.

I've had a similar case whereby the client is expecting an IFC model in global coordinates. This is creating an issue when importing into Trimble connect. The problem is that they can't see any objects and I suspect it's due to the fact that everything is so far from 0,0,0.

Has anyone else had this issue? Is there a "translation" field within the IFC file that can be edited (export a localised version and edit an XYZ vaule in the IFC file)?

Thanks in advance.

There is a "move" function in Trimble connect, if I'm not mistaken. Talk with architects, they can also import IFC model to Revit and rearrange it. No other option.
