PDM/PLM for projects in Advance Steel

Dear community,

is there any more complex PDM/PLM for the combination of "data and project management" for Advance Steel and AutoCAD? We currently operate on a strong manual basis "everything via Windows Explorer + separate obsolete databases", which is very demanding, confusing and not very user-friendly.

It should basically allow to define projects for the construction (possibly for statics) of steel and concrete structures, multi-user work in the project directory, automatic numbering of documentation, part search, monitoring the status of documentation / project, revision control, creation / editing / archiving related to project documentation, sent to the customer, etc.

In a word, all the steps from receiving the project from the sales department, through processing in our department, to sending the documentation to the customer.

I know exactly what we need, I just can't describe it with professional descriptions 😉

Many thanks in advance for your tips / ideas

Hi,

so that is a really interesting question considering recent events and going forward with every changing tech and digitisation of the workflows

so i don't think their is one all encompassing product to achieve what is required,   from experience i have seen the use of AS within Vault to control the PDM part of  modelling and detailing,  make use of the AS functions to manage it own revisions and updates and then link this into vault to make use of the lifestyles within vault.

you could look at Autodesk PLM,  but that is more manufacturing based rather than construction based,  but still relative to a model steel fabrication process.

There are other systems  like Strumis/ Ficep Steel projects,  Advance workshop,  this are system that can manage the ordering , stock and fabrication  process/stations.   more of the back office,  rather that the design and detailing side.  they tend to be a Hybrid between MIS/ERP System.

I think  going forward,  with the developments of cloud based system such as MS  SharePoint/One drive,  Autodesk construction cloud and BIM360 with Assembly/Plangrid and Building connect  I think any credible system would be looking or at based upon going into the cloud.

@stephan.gumpert  ,  I would in you part of the world have you seen anything along these lines using a combination of products to provide these kind of solutions.

Cheers

I have seen Vault configured in the past to work with Advance Steel.  It takes a bit of configuring as you need to do a \automatic checking in and checking out of secondary files.  Vault is very powerful with Lifecycle management and job processor that can have almost any sort of job created for it. These are only two of the many powerful thing that Vault can do.
