Monowills Stancion Issue

Hi AS community,

 

I'm getting 2 clashes I can't seem to clear when modelling Monowills Stanchions.

 

The first one is the bolt with the stancion, for some reason it is inserting a bolt for 90mm so this could be the issue but I can't seem to find a way to adjust the length and clear the clash.

 

The second one is with the angle of the hole in the spheres for the hand and kneerail, for some reason they are not rotating to align and match the angle of the stair. I have attached an image.

 

Is @Anonymous online as I believe he wrote this macro for the Australian AS version.

Hi Antony,

 

What angle is your stair? And also, did you select beams from bottom to top?

 

Maybe if you could attached the model?

Hi awfb, mate thanks for your response, yeah the stairs are 45 degrees and yes picked the system line from bottom to top. I updated the stancion block moving the tube down further on the base plate to give the top bolt more clearance and then I inverted the bolt and presto it shortened up and fixed the clash.

 

I then rotoated the spheres 45 degrees and that also fixed that clash.

 

I seem to remember discussing this with Stephan Gumbert a couple of years ago and he gave me that solution (edit the stanchion block), but I seem to remember he was working on an update.

Are you from Australia? do you use the momowills macro yourself and if so how do you fix the issues like I have been experiencing??

Hey Anthony,

 

Yep, based in Australia.

 

In short, we've started using the Monowills macro quite heavily recently. Not sure if you're on AS2021, but get on if you're not...😁

 

There have been a lot of bug fixes in 2021 and we recently completed a project with around 300 handrail assemblies and I only had to explode one macro and apply the workarounds. Having said that, there is a minor bug in that the holes in the kick plate bracket and base plate are not fully drilled through the post, so the bolts will give you a clash, but it's a vast improvement on the previous versions.

 

I can see from your image that it looks like the post base plate is offset the wrong way, so I guessed 45 degrees. One tip to avoid this problem is to change the "AngleMax" value in the AM post offsets to 45.1

Two things here.

 

The holes in the stanchion was an existing bug, depending on the version of use this has been resolved.

 

Also important to notice Monowills stanchions are designed up to 45 degrees, with a certain degree stairs the bolt head starts to hit the post.  What is the angle of the stairs? (Angle should be in the post)

 

As a tip, With stairs always model them from bottom to the top of the sairs.

I am using AS 2020, are there any bugs in Monowills macro for this version?

 

The stairs are 45 degs which is compliant with AS/NZS 1657.

 

Below is an extract from the Monowills tech data regarding base plate hole set-outs and I think the issue with the macro is with the model of the stanchion being used not complying with the monowills dimensions for a 45 degree stairway.

Try to modify this table & field to allow for just above 45 degrees.  The formula is a Less than function.

Thanks for that feedback @stephan.gumpert,

 

So I have updated that rule to 45.1 and it has fixed the bolts but the stanchion is now still unchanged. 

 

Is this because I'm on 2020??

 

Do you have to update the rule, AND amend the stanchion in the block editor as well?

Sorry should of mentioned this.

 

Once  a block is created the definition is never changed once created.

 

So after changing the Table value, you will need to:

  1. Reload the Database
  2. Delete that type of block from drawing
  3. recreate te handrail

Once a block definition exists the system just uses the current definition.

Sorry to bother you again @stephan.gumpert , however I'm still not getting the right sphere rotation to suit the stairs.

I trialled macro in a new DWG file so there were no existing blocks.

 

How do you re load the database? I have never done that before? How is that done? Is that the problem?

Yes, the workaround is to use the blockeditor and change the hole through the sphere accordingly.

 

Because the blocks only get created once this works very well.

Hey here's another Monowills question for your Stephan @stephan.gumpert ,

 

I'm now using AS 2019 but still getting clashes with Monowills handrails.

 

Also is it possible to model curved/rolled guardrails with the Monowills macro?
