Model Views, Levels on different coordinates UCS from 0,0,0

Hi all AS users,

Hi have a AS model that is placed on different coordinates from 0,0,0.

It is done on different coordinates from zero, to match the coordinates from the client Navisworks model. When I export to Navisworks the client just append my model and the coordinates matchs.

I'm trying to setup some Model Views/Levels but the reference for this are always created at 0,0,0 when my model is different from 0,0,0.

I have also moved the UCS to center with my model, but the Model Views/Levels ignores the new UCS position and places the references at 0,0,0.

Anyone know if it is possible to create Model Views/Levels at coordinates different form 0,0,0?

Have you tried setting a camera at the point you would like to view from?

Hi,

Model Views are created by picking points of some kind or a joint box. They will be created wherever you wish. Levels and Work Planes are infinite so although the graphics for them are at the WCS origin they will work for your model wherever it is. If the graphics are showing it will mess up Zoom Extents but you should normally have the graphics turned off for those.

I would advise against working to large coordinates. It is a common issue that I am sure you will find other posts about on this forum. You shoud put your model with a key point at the WCS origin. Then the Navisworks user just needs to append your model and as a ONE OFF operation apply a suitable offset in the coordinates in their coordinated model. It takes seconds for them and only has to be done once. They just keep overwriting their copy of your file with any updates and it stays in place in their model.  If you try to model at large coordinates you will find all sorts of strange behaviour sooner or later. AutoCAD, and hence Advance Steel, simply cannot handle large coordinates (> about 1million).
