Label Content Manager - how it should work?

Hi,

I have a problem to understand - how should work Label Content Manager (_ASTM4CommDetUpdateTokens)!?

Every time I use it, I received a message "All tokens already exist in the detail" (translated from Polish - so maybe not exactly the same in English).

As I understand this command - after selecting detail, then should open window "Update tokens" in which I should be able to select available tokens in the detail:

In 2017 the label contents default was changed, so it loads all the available tokens (attributed data) , before you only had tokens that where used in the drawing created and any others that where specified in the management tools defaults setting that controlled what tokens are loaded into the created drawing file from the model.
Think if you search for label content in the defaults, you will find the field/entry that had the tokens listed.
Not at my computer , so cannot give exact default reference.

Same in drawings made by AS2016 - still don't understand to waste such a big place on Ribbon for command doing almost nothing.

I was sure that Label Content Manager should allow to load/unload tokens even if all are already loaded in the detail!?

Could somebody from Development Team explain it?

Originally that was the intended purpose of adding the tokens required to the drawing, then there was a decision to change it to load every token by default into the drawing files create.
This was because people complain that they could not find the token they required and then had to load it. So they changed it.

You are damed if you do it, or damed if you don't

OK - I understand, but it means that actually it is not possible to unload unnecessary tokens!?

There are two reasons to unload some tokens:

1. As it was written in one of manuals: "A large numer of tokens are available in Autodesk AS software and storing all of these values for all of the parts in all of the drawings could have negative effect on performance".

2. There are a lot of tokens which I never use - so there should be a possibility to unload some tokens (even if they are already loaded by default).

Good afternoon and thank you for your post. My name is Bogdan, I am with the Technical Support Team and I will be assisting you on this issue.

The "Label content manager" was design to allow adding additional tokens for the overview drawings.

When in an overview drawing, adding a new token in the "Label content manager" will make that token available in the combo box that opens when double clicking a label. So, after adding the new token, it can be used to be added to the content of the label.

As per the error message saying that "all tokens already exist in the detail" it occurs for assemblies and single part drawings, because the "Label content manager" cannot be used for them. The error message means that there are no available tokens that can be added in the combo as they are already there.

I hope this was helpful.

Thank you. I look forward to hearing back from you soon.

Hi Bogdan,

Thanks for Your reply - if I understand You correctly, "Label Content Manager" is only for adding missing tokens and not for tokens managing!?

If so... then this tool name is a little prematured and ribbon icon is far too big Smiley Wink.

Anyway... I didn't find any explanation of this tool in Autodesk Advance Steel Help so and in Autodesk Advance Steel User's Guide.

The only place I find explanation of Label Content Manager function was "Advance Steel 2017(2015) - Essentials Metric Training Guide"... but there is written:

"Select the tokens that you want to have available in this drawing detail"

so I understood it, that I can manage about available tokens in the detail and I was probably wrong.

the label content manager is not designed, for creating custom labels. The label manager only manage which token are used from the model.
If you want to create a custom manual label strategy, you had to insert a label and then have a look in the command line...press "C" for change, then right mouse button click on "user" for set this to current profile.

001_.jpg

002_.jpg

Now you could add any token to any object you want.

These strategies could be changed, if you want to add a complete new one (by not not changing an existing one), you could to this in the management tools.
Open the table editor, open the databases, filter for manual and you will find the "detmanualannotationtyp" table...here you could add a new line and then after restarting AS, you could use the Change Label command again and do whatever you want with this label strategy
