Import IFC files

When I import an IFC file I get the dialog "section conversion" and "material conversion" maybe 100 times (depends on how many profiles the IFC has got).

Is there an option that the sections of the IFC file will be imported without converting into existing profiles of Advance steel, so that I don't have to refer to an profile of advance steel when importing?

So that the sections will be imported just as solids instead of beam profiles?

Hi,

so maybe a slightly different approach, in that review the model via many of the free viewers out there, to gain some insight into the construction,  beams types and materials from the embedded metadata.  this may help identify some missing materials from the AS Database that could be added in before the import via IFC,   similarity any sections that may not exist inside AS you could create those via userprofiles or using standard shape codes

Viewers examples:

Some, well most IFC files will contain Breps, which AS does not import to the nature of a Brep only being a proxy representation of a form/Shape,  but again some advice is to export from the source IFC as a solid format, for example the FZK viewer you can use the Export to STEP format,  then using the Import and select STEP format within the Autocad functionality which AS is built over.  ( this file can be saved as a DWG drawing and used as a reference file to model over and snap too.   ( either as block or Xref options)

Similarly if you have Revit, you can  use the options there to link the IFC file,  then Export that as a DWG and then link that back into your AS model as a solids underlay using Xref options.

Materials mapping

yes this is the standard dialog, you should only need to do this once, it is stored then in the GTC database,  my advice is to try as understand the materials required before import these, so you have them present in the system to map too,  this avoids having issues with materials mappings being incorrect and having to try and manually remove them from the GTC database.

Section types

Again, you  only need to do this once, but again i would as stated before try and review the model prior to import via viewer gain any knowledge of sections used and possible new ones required.

unfortunately that is the way that AS currently deals with IFC's  hopefully some insights there,    if you look on this forum and web in general you will find various advice etc.

For some dark reason i have to fill it every time, my solution is stop using them and get solids instead.

You also have issue's with the center line of channels etc
