Imperial dimensions and weight in mm_AStemplate.dwt drawings and BOM

advance steel 2022 mm_ASTemplate produces drawings and bill of material with imperial dimensions. How can this be fixed so that when I choose the metric template for a project

I will get everything metric? weight in kilos dimensions in milimeter etc.

Hi @jlmjean ,

 

Are you using metric or imperial prototypes when creating drawings? As a test, can you try creating a beam assembly >> run Numbering >> select the beam assembly and then use the 5 - Beam drawing style from the Drawing Style tool palette (if you are using the USA install of AS. If not, please using the equivalent beam assembly drawing style) >> click on Modify settings in the next dialog box:

Under the next dialog box, go to the Prototype (template) tab and then select one of the metric prototypes. Hit OK to create the drawing and then check if you get metric dimensions and weight. 

 

If this works, you may need to double check the prototypes that are set in your Drawing Processes. Go to the Drawing Process Manager under the Output tab >> expand User >> expand the category you want to double check and then select a drawing process you use (ex. All Assemblies Each ANSI-D). Select the icon next to Filename selector. Check the prototype name in the Filename selector dialog box. You may need to change this prototype name to the metric prototype you need to use.

Hi, 

within the US System you should find both  Metric and imperial templates for each element required, for the model, for the drawing and for the BOM on Drawings.

 

below i try to explain one approach to helping to get metric outputs,..

 

2 ASTemplates.DWT files one for Imperial and one for metric,  this is for the modelling

  • For the Metric type the units for length, weight etc. should be set by default to metric, this is found under project setting button on the home ribbon.

For the drawings you have two sets of templates (prototype files), these are also for metric and imperial.   The metric ones are prefixed with  mm_ASDetproto.

For BOM and Drawing Templates, which are used in the Prototypes,  also there should be metric and imperial versions, corresponding place within the delivered files.

To create drawings, I would recommend you try the metric prototypes if creating from a style via the Drawing style manager.  The style will just create the content within the prototype, using the units set.

 

If you are using a drawing process,  I presently could not see any drawing processes that use the metric prototype templates,  but all is not lost.

You can goto the User part of the Drawing process manager and under the various processes you will see the process steps listed, in there is an element called the file name selector, within that is the there is a cell field with the prototype name,  you can add in the  ‘mm-‘ prefix to the name, for each of these.  This will then use the metric template.

This is quick change for each process step, to avoid changing or creating a duplicated set of drawing process for metric.

Note please check, but from what I recall there is a metric version of every imperial prototype and the same for the BOM on drawing templates
