I am generating drawings from Advance Steel & Saving as Autocad file. But when I am opening that file in Autocad, the the file is showing only viewport. How can I solve this problem. I also want to  export dxf format but could not found in Export file type of  Advance Steel 2016. Please help.

What is the purpose for opening in plain AutoCAD? Editing with plain AutoCAD will disassociate with the 3D model. I would not recommend this.

Is this to send to a customer? You could use detail explode from document manager or install 30 day trial of AS. After 30days the advance commands do not function any more, but you can still open AS drawings without explode.

For DXF, do you mean NC DXF ?

In order to view AS drawings in AutoCAD without the Advance Steel application, you must explode the drawing from the Advance Steel Document Manager first.  When you explode a drawing, it makes a copy of the Advance Steel drawing that can be viewed in AutoCAD alone, but it is all line segments, and not associated with the model file.  You can explode AS drawings into any AutoCAD format or DXF if you wish.

Have there been any improvements on this since 2015? I'm needing to send my detail drawings to the client. My details have been made with cameras and I have turned off the layers I don't want to show. If I explode these views I get all the layers I had off back on, but exploded and everything is on the 0 layer.

Go to document manager, select drawing you want click add to explode on the right side, then click ok and ok again. After that AS will make a folder named something like DetailsExploded go there and there are DWG files you can open in Autocad

Try this setting in the management tools.  This should bring the layers into the exploded drawing.

I think you will need to turn off your layers again though.  I don't think your over-rides will carry through to the exploded drawing.

I can open AS drawings in plan AutoCAD and see everything without exploding anything. The AS objects are not editable what so ever, but I can see them none the less.

Are you using the same version of AutoCAD and Advance Steel?

That is really interesting. It would be nice to send the client drawings that weren't completely exploded, dimensions and leaders shouldn't have to be single lines. I know how fun it is to receive files like that.- However, I'm not sure what the client has to open them with and if someone wanted to open it several years from now, could they? Most likely with a different version.

All they would need is Autocad and the advance steel object enabler. Their version would have to be the same as yours or newer.

Newer versions of the object enablers will work on older version, but older version wont work on newer.

Hi,

If there are parts in the vies you don't want, instead of putting them on different layers and turning them off, you should select and delete them. Then Update the view and anything previously hidden by that part is drawn in.  The views remember which objects are deleted so they don't come back unless you ask for them.

If the parts are deleted they obviously won't appear in exploded drawings either.

Thank you for your reply. Solves the problem. Can you also show us your project that you have in the background. Looks like a pit supporting walls. You can message me in private if you want.

Have a nice day.

Hi.  I have no problem sharing.  Model attached.

This project was an external freestanding screen.  The lower half was clad with vertical single skin, with a site assembled horizontal louvre above.
