Hi Guys,
I am pretty new to Advance Steel so sorry if I ask about something obvious.
I want to create dimension style where holes in member front view are dimensioned to the top flange only without dims to the bottom flange. I managed to do it using 'System as reference' in 'Point type selection, but then have to keep the system line visible which I don't want. Any chances to use system line as reference for dimensions but at the same time to switch it off from view? Or maybe there is another way to achieve what I am looking for?
This is what I have for now:
I keep for now dimensions descriptions as it is easier for me to identify them. It is only for now so just ignore.
Many thanks
Agnes
You really want your system lines to show in the drawing. Your dimensions will be more stable attached to this.
The system lines can be turned off through the plot styles. Set system lines to a unique colour, and then set that colour not to print in the plot styles .ctb file.
Hi sdonohoedesign,
Thank you for your answer. I tried that and then the dimension line sticks outside the top flange as it is snapped to system line outside member. I might have to change the end snap for dimension manually or maybe anyone else would suggest something else.
Hi,
I agree with @sdonohoedesign that it is better to keep the system lines in the drawing but if you don't want to do that then replace "MP System as Reference" with "MP Extreme Right as Ref" set your dimension to Main Part > Extreme size of object in dimension direction then set the Relative to object centre as Right.
There should likely be a point request already set for this. In the UK Build it is called "Ref MP - Extreme Right".

I personally never let the system auto dimension anything. I always do it manually, so my details look clean, tidy, and the way I want them to look.
