Gusset plate for 3, quicker way?

Hey all,

 

Just curious if there's anyone out there who would know a much quicker way of achieving this connection? "The Gusset plate for 3" connection is connected to a 2.5degree rafter beam.

 

Steps i did:

1 - Create a gusset plate for 3 beams connection

2 - Create a end plate for the CHS member

(No I couldn't have just put a EP from the gusset plate connection. The connection box turns RED when I try, not sure if its because the beam is in a 2.5degree or what.)

3 - Put bolts through EP to beam. 

4 - element contour for CHS to gusset plate

 

If there's anyone familiar with this connect please let me know. I don't want to be doing these 4 steps for every 3 diagonal beam connections. Thanks!

Put an end plate connection on your central member, and then add 2x single brace gussets to each of the diagonals.

 

A red joint box means that the connection cannot be applied with the current settings.  For a brace gusset with your '2 corner' shape you would have to reduce 'projection 4' in the gusset parameters tab.

I really appreciate your reply but I'm following a detail drawing, where the gusset plate runs through the CHS member, shown in the picture I included. But saying that, I did try that method, thankyou.

Just looking for a faster/efficient way to create such connection and if I can integrate it to the master-slave system.

OK I see....  I think what you are doing is fine, I don't think there really is any quicker way.  

 

Personally, I would probably model the end plate as a 'flat' with manual bolts and shortening, and then connect a 'gusset plate for 2 diagonals' to the flat bar end plate.

 

Not sure if you are using it already, but make sure you use the 'copy with adjustment' to copy the items to similar locations around your model.

What do you mean by: modelling the end plate as a "flat" ??

If you model the end plate as a flat bar the software essentially treats it as a member, and you can attach your connections to it.

Only potential issue is that the software will call this off as a flat in the BOMs

This doesn't cause any problems for any of my customers. None of them mind if the BOM calls off a flat or a plate.

Ahhh, I'll keep that in mind. For now I'll stick with using a Endplate on my CHS then creating a 2 or 3 beam gusset connection on with it.
