Getting an error - Stair Anchor Base Plate

Anonymous
Not applicable

I finally got the risers and stringers the way that I want them (on my first stair) - FOR THE MOST PART....However, my stair ends (floor) look like this:

Stair Bottom.PNG

But, I need them to look like this:

Plan Stair Bottom.PNG

I would assume that i could just use the "Stair Anchor Base Plate" option from the connections vault, but I keep getting an error.

When I click on the members, it asks for a reference point (optional)..I have tried both ways (yes/no) and I get an error stating something about the template values and I should take the default options....

I click on the icon for the SABP, then it asks me to choose the members. So, I choose both stair stringers. Then it asks me about the reference point. It doesn't matter what i tell it, it still tells me there is an error.

My best guess is that the stringers aren't trimmed to get a closure plate - but, I thought this command would automatically do that for me. If not...how do I trim the stringer the way it is supposed to be?

Can you set the UCS to the bottom of the stair and try place the connection again?

Try setting your USC at the point of the stair you wish to use the base plate on.

I made a video a few months back showing the best way to model a stair, this will show you how to do it!

As for the stringer trimming, place & set the UCS at the object Node point(red line end) and use one of these two tools. Keep in mind that negative values (-5',etc.)will also work.

HI,

Further to other replies.

First make sure your UCS has Z pointing up vertically and is not rotated. Also, just to be safe in this case, I would move the UCS to the bottom of the stair.

No AS joints from Connection Vault ever allow you to select more than one member at a time. You seem to say you are selecting both stringers at once. You should pick only one stringer and accept. It should palce a joint then for you to play with the parameters. (You need one joint per stringer). It shoud nto be difficutl to get what you want. The reference point option is if you want to measure distances from a nosing line of the stair which is different to the front of the stringer. If you say no it measures from the front of the stringer.

The message regarding no template value found is not an error it is just information that there is no saved configuration of the joint matching the selected member(s). You can ignore that for now.

Looking at the drawing in your message it looks more like an angle cleat at the bottom of the stair to me. If that is the case you want to use the Stair Anchor Angle joint instead.

I hoep that helps.

Hello @Anonymous  be sure when you re-position your UCS so the Z elevation is at the height you want your bottom of your anchor angles.... (I assume finish floor elev)

That stair macro was a screaming learning curve for me as well...until @Kirk_bailey posted his screencast on how its done!
