Gates/railings etc

Hi, I know I've been leaning on this forum a lot over the last month or so, and I really appreciate the feed back from you guys. As you may know from my previous posts in currently in the process of learning steel detailing and cad work. I was wondering if anyone could tell me the best/easiest way of drawing something like this would be "attached image" the company I work for make a lot of architectural steel work such as this and I'd like to get to grips on how to draw it, thanks in advance. Any other tips on more standard gates and railings etc would obviously be massively appreciated as well. Thanks again!

to make teh bent flat bar at top  i used  beam from poleyline

but first i used spline then made a poley line on top of spline   , as beam from polyline dont like splines

all the vertical stuff should be strate forward   , probily use copy rectrangaler array  from tools

and cut at object from features to cut them all down to top flat bar (polyline beam)

only make one half them mirror

maybe use 2d snap from quick views since evry thing on one plane

when welding it all to getther u dont have to do etch peice one by one , u could just select ALL   then clik weld point , an clik on gate sum were

this will weld all but the drawings will not have very good weld detail  , but do u wont 300 weld simbuls be best just writeing a few thing lines of text

all weld to b1 an b2 6mm filet

all weld to b3,b4 4mm filet       sumet like that

Hi,

the best way to create such complex structures is to build it from lines.

Draw the geometry of your structure etc. with simple Autocad commands and then use this command träger Linie.JPG to make beams from the lines.

Example:

tor.JPG

tor2.JPG

A very useful tool for cutting beams etc. on existing objects is this command in AS Toolbar: cut.JPG

Example:

cut 2.JPG

cut3.JPG

It is much easier to define the geometry with lines. You can also import a drawing with the geometry inside e.g. a DXF-File.

Greetings

Joerg

Thanks for the help guys, had a bit of a play about this evening and managed to get the gate frame modelled using your tips, just to put in all the Infills and bits now, thanks again for the help.

Ps alickomay, you said u created a spline and then drew a polyline over the top, well in my time playing about I noticed if you right click the spline you can convert the spline to polyline that way. Don't know if that's what you meant or not, or if you didn't know this and it will save you time in the future. Thanks again
