Excel lists from Advance Steel

New to Advance Steel. I need to export a list from my model that has the following columns:

Assembly mark Number
Associated Drawing Number
Unit mass of item
Qty
Assembly length
Assembly width
Assembly height

This is a pretty standard BOM but I can't seem to find any way to create this from the model layout. Please help! I've also not been able to find anything online for this and getting really frustrated with the software

Hi @Jaco_ErasmusUKGEN,

do you know how to get a BOM? If not, first, you need to learn how to create a standard BOM via BOM Editor. Therefor you will find in Advance Steel Help / Youtube / Google a lot of articles.

Hint: before BOM will be created, you must generate a LIST via this command (preparation of the necessary parts for BOM):

This is basic knowledge without which you cannot move forward. Without work there are no pies.

I recommend the basic and advanced course for Advance Steel, otherwise you will be confused even in the basic questions.

@bigcarl5000kg , thanks for this insight. I will look into these courses, reading and viewing material as well as individual research. I've been using Inventor for almost 10 years and the BOM manipulation on that is simply put, amazing. Just used to that I suppose. Thanks again for your help

Hi @Jaco_ErasmusUKGEN ,

I feel your pain, have been using SolidWorks for long time. Advance Steel is 2,5D CAD, therefore, please do not be surprised by certain problems. One has to be a bit of a magician... 😁

@bigcarl5000kg  hahahahaha yeah, the full 3D modeling definitely has its advantages when it comes to user-friendliness, customizability and data extraction. Thanks though, I feel less frustrated now knowing this is normal

@Jaco_ErasmusUKGEN,

unfortunately, sometimes the paths through the work space are quite thorny 😊.

If you have already come to terms with the state of affairs (and in the future it will not be better in the case of Advance Steel - since 03/2023 in maintenance mode only), then please mark your question / thread as solved.

@Sebastian_Eiche thanks a lot, I eventually found these and wrote some "vlookup" formulas to assemble the data I needed for my report. I'll be sure to try and create my own BOM templates in the future to use for this scenario
