Dimension Style Changes

Hi everyone,

I'm having troubles getting my dimension style to work properly with the parametric dimensions. It seems that AS is overwriting my dimension style settings and using its own. Capture1 is how AS parametric dims look when placed manually and auto-detailed. Caption 2 is how I want them to be. is it even possible?

All my prototype files still use the default dim style but with the minor tweaks that I've made that should produce the caption2 result. I've tried adjusting settings in the AS Management Tools to see if any of the dimension settings would make a difference but I've had no luck.

If anyone has any ideas, it would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

As far as I can tell the dimension styles are the same in both images. The only difference is the position of the text. The reason the text on the smaller dimension is outside the dimension lines is because the dim is too short to give enough space for the text. There is nothing the user can do to control this it is up to AutoCAD whether it has enough space to place the text between the witness lines or not. You can play with the options on the Fit page of the Dimension Style to guide what AutoCAD does when it thinks there is not enough room for the text.

I have set up my drawing templates to place text next to dimension when text won't fit between extension lines. I still get text with leaders on my details. I would like to get rid of dimensions with leaders....much like the example given above. Is there somewhere else where the setting must be applied?

Hi,

In UK Build it is Defaults > Drawing Dimensioning > General > Enable Dimensions Extensions. You need to untick that and update defaults. It might only affect new drawings or dimensions not existing ones.

I hope this helps you...... The only way that I've been able to use different dim styles in AST after setting them up is to execute the ast dim command 

and before you select any thing on screen you are given a chance to arrow down to open the dimension styles drop down which basically gives you 

an lame, numbered list of dim styles that are present in the drawing.  You have to type that number in and then the dim style will work. 

Why we cannot use the standard Autocad menu to change styles on the fly is quite frustrating but this is the only way that  I've found that works.

Remember also that there are many settings that will not work in the AST dimensioning engine at this time. You'll have to experiment to see what works..

It's a pain in the arse...  there might be another way but I have not found it.
