Creating a camera at UCS to capture a single assembly in a model

We are having a problem trying to create a camera at a UCS view to display a single assembly from a steelwork model. Is there anyway of isolating a single assemble from within a model so that the view created from a UCS camera ignores everything else in the model, just showing the intended assembly? I want to include a 3D perspective image of various assemblies in a model to accompany assembly drawings for fabricators, giving them the perspective overview to make visualising what they need to create easier. I know one can isolate parts in a camera created view and update the image to get rid of the residual grey box that is left behind after the part is deleted and refresh to view to show components that might have been hidden from view by the deleted part, but that is a very involved way of getting around this. 

Any help you guys n gals can give would be much appreciated.

Maybe try "selected assembly" in output tab. No sure, but it may create what you like

You can create an isometric of an assembly like this.

You would have to do this separately and add it to the existing assembly drawing.

Hi,

That workflow is OK but there is a risk the view won't update properly if there are edits in the model. A selected parts view will NEVER show any new parts. Editing the stair macro may result in parts being replaced with new ones even if the quantity is the same.  If this happens the only option is to delete and remake the view. 

Also, you cannot use selected parts views with Cameras; or at least you can but they will show everything in range and not ask to select parts.

It is possible to create a drawing style for a 3D view based on an assembly but then you need to allow duplicate workshop drawings to create the 3D detail as well as the main detail. If you build the 3D view into the main assembly detail the scaling becomes an issue as 3D views always use a larger area for the same scale. also not every assembly looks good form the same UCS during a Drawing Process.

There is no one perfect answer.

Thank you for the detailed info on this. Very much appreciated. All the chaps who have replied, have shown what a priceless facility this forum is. It really is a useful tool in any modelers armory. 

My manager, here, just asked me why his view keeps changing to perspective whenever he changes from 2D wireframe to shaded modes. Foxed me. I always have to force a view from parallel to perspective. Is there a View setting somewhere that you know of, where one can specify the change that might have been flagged on his install of Advance Steel ,that I can change back to the default of parallel?

Hi Patrick,

I doubt it is the change of visual style that is triggering Perspective (though I can't swear to it). Does he use the Home view icon on the View Cube? The Home view could be set to perspective. You can change the home view by setting the view you want on screen then right-click on the view cube and select Set current view as Home. So if you double check / reset the home view as parallel that might help.
