Crane design

Hi all,

Much appreciated if anyone can please help me with followings :

1. Just wondering whether can I use a complete electronic overhead crane design (structural parts) in Advanced Steel? Have you ever seen an example anywhere online ? 

2. Can we create a Structural Frame and mate imported dxf file (hoist drawing) from AutoCAD to make a complete assembly crane in Advanced Steel ? And Later creation of drawing possible ?

New to advanced steel so your help will be a great help.

Hi @Anonymous,

before that I worked in the construction of overhead bridge cranes, all companies I know in this segment use high-end 3D-CAD (SolidWorks, SolidEdge, Inventor, Catia), where we work with solids. Of course, these are significantly more expensive.

However, it is also possible to create a crane construction in Advance Steel, but it is all incomparable with the above SW - especially for machined parts. In Advance Steel, you don't have any mates / dependencies here, for the parametrically controlled construction in 3D (in 2D possible only).

The crane runway is not a problem, it's steel construction only.

Of course, you can try it in the free trial version, but without basic / advanced training it will be (less or more) complicated.

Advance Steel basically includes the Autocad environment with a lot of tools and functions for 2D / 3D steel structures, so it is possible to import / export anything between these programs. It is best to watch some videos on Youtube to get an idea of how Advance Steel works.
