Hi!

Our company wants to buy a steel detailing software, I have a good experience in AS. I insist to my boss we should buy AS-2020. My boss said there is a other software also for detailing. He asked me to give me comparison.

I did not find comparison between these software.

Can any one give me the comparison so, I can conveyance to my boss to buy a AS.

thanks,

We completed the selection round 3,5 years ago for our transmission towers in 3D. At that time, the programs were tested for 3 months.

You can forget Bocad Tower, this is not a 3D program - total user-not-friendly. Until they have the program core so far, I'm retired. Program itself is also expensive.

Tekla Structures is great, has modules for the tower / components as well as huge community. Disadvantage is the "current" price.

"Unfortunately" AS was selected at the end - here you start on a green meadow, there are only a few joints that you can use. It's not bad, only you have to do a lot more manual on the start and program something. With this SW, the only question is, in which direction Autodesk directs its future.

Hi,

It depends on the scope of work, either of them has advantages.

Bridges-large size curved box girders

Bridges-Plate girders-straight or with a horizontal sweep

Bridges-cambered W-beams

Buildings-Structural steel only or mostly light structural + misc. metals

But as it was said-we have to be careful with Autodesk and especially having product management not understanding detailing at all which is a ridiculous fact for its self.

Something that may happen only in a company this size.

SolidWorks is a high-end 3D software (like a CATIA / PROE / SolidEdge / PTC Creo) - not only for machine or plant engineering.

I only used SolidWorks for heavy crane construction. At that time (2005-2012) we made at the beginning the associated steel construction (stages, stairs, railings, ...) also manuel without modules - in the course of time but parametric components and connections were created / programmed, which was great later. In this SW you can control everything parametrically - from A to Z.

BUT - everyone has different needs and possibilities.

Steel construktions - new is an add-on module for steel construction available from German Company KLIETSCH - see https://www.klietsch.com/?lang=en. See more also on Youtube. I tested that now in March and have to say - I like that, in which direction it has shifted. Such functionality would be a dream in Advance Steel - unfortunately that is not possible.

In SolidWorks are other logic and needs built in - I learned the program completely without training in 3 days ...very user friendly software. PDM and sheet metal processing is one of the TOP products on the market.

Let it show you the product, for your personal comparison, I can not tell you -that's the perfect thing for you
... and I do not want to propagate any program here.

...Placing web splice plate one on one side, after that another one on the other side, and after that filling the holes with bolts. Primitive.

Better spend a few $$ more and get Tekla.

Thanks for sharing.

Hi,

These comments for Tower Modelling is totally incorrect, Bocad was the first to develop modules in Towers and is the best in the world being used in Middle East and India.

I'm not sure which package you looked at in Bocad but your comments are not correct.

Hi @chrisv,

Tekla Structures and Advance Steel for Transmission towers are the most widely used in Europe. Advance Steel has been used by us for almost 20 years. For me, it is currently the clear number one in the field.

+++ impossible immediately and miracles within 3 days +++
+++ the only constant is the change +++ stay tuned for more +++
+++ since 03/2023 is Advance Steel in maintenance mode, no further development +++
