Assembly Numbering Format Not Saved

If I change the single part numbering format it s saved in the model and each time I run numbering the single part numbering format will be as required.

However the assembly numbering format is NOT saved and I have to edit it every time I run numbering.

Is there something I can do to fix this or is it another bug?

What is your installed version (international, us ?)

I could not reproduce this in my side.

Could you try to start AS by using the right mouse button and in the context menu 'start as admin'

Hi @TomR_au,

Thank you for posting on Advance Steel forum 🙂

I just tried on my side, using AS 2018 HF2 - AU, but it seems to work correctly.

Do you think you could record a video, to see exactly the steps and the behavior on your side ?

Thank you very much

Emy

Same here, I tried it with a complete fresh installation.

Dou you have the problem in every model? Maybe a problem with the template dwt? Could you try it in a new DWG created with the original dwt?

Hi Sebastian,

I create a new model with 'No Template - Metric' and got the same problem.

I guess it is just a bug.

should be really a problem on your side. I create a virtual machine with a clean AS2018 installation and it works great.

Hi @Sebastian_Eiche ,

Thanks for taking the time to check.

Do you have any suggestions on where I should check at my end for problems?

What file/db saves the numbering format?

I will have a look in the Screencast when I'm back in the office. Maybe Emy has an idea

Hi @TomR_au ,

Thank you for the video, it was exactly what we needed to see.

I have reproduced the behavior on my side.

Here is the summary:

- The issue occurs when delete the token %Prefix from the numbering format.

- Basically, the numbering does not allow you to not use the token %Prefix. When the token is not included, AS will still use it; it will use the default format (%Prefix%Counter%MethodNumber), so this is why it looks like it does not save the numbering settings.

Currently I am not very sure this is an "issue", due to possible conflicts that could appear if the token would not be used.

Let's say you do not use the token %Prefix for numbering, but you do have assemblies with prefix (from StandardPartTemplate, as example). What should be the behavior of numbering ? To discard / delete the prefix completely ? To keep the prefix but to not show it ? These situations might lead to confusion or mistakes.

I would suggest to keep the token %Prefix in the numbering method. As long as the prefix is not activated or it is not set manually, it should not affect in any way the numbering result.

Please let me know if it makes sense what I explained.

Best regards,
Emy

Hi @Emanuel.Nestor ,

Think-you for taking the time to look at this. I confirm that with %prefix token the format string is saved.

As you say there is no need for me to remove %prefix token if prefix is not set.

Maybe the only issue is that the software should warn that %prefix token is required.

Same like for %counter token.

Hi @TomR_au

Thank you for confirmation.

I already sent it to the development team, to take a look if a warning message could be provided 🙂

All the best

Emy
