Are you considering moving to Tekla after AS ?

Hi! Since Advance Steel's future is uncertain(and Revit doesn't fit your work) would you consider moving to Tekla? To be honest, I don't know the price of Tekla subscription, but let's say that your company would pay that price.

I am a beginner in AS, do you think start learning Tekla instead of AS would be a smart move?

Thank you!

Hi @spufut,

believe me, you don't even want to do it, the price is x times higher than AS ... and these are not all disadvantages

Does someone worked with TecnoMETAL?  Looking a similar or better alternatives to AS.

It says AutoCad and BricsCad compatible.

Not tekla or sds/2. Both are way more expensive. I have several years experience on both and I switched to AS because it is simply a better platform for the money (as long as they keep updating that is). If autodesk doesn't get it together with regards to AS I'll most likely start looking at other platforms but Tekla and SDS/2 won't be among them.

Nope, but they have dedicated tools for Lattice towers... Gtaitec announce their new powerpack with enhacments for lattice towers so i'am w8ing this release..

No, for now No Tekla, No SDS/2.

There are other options similar to AS, but IMO AS will remain because Autodesk will score its OWN GOAL, a huge one, as it is Worldcup final with penalties if they retire AS.

Their target is a centralized model in Revit.

Which is a good idea overall.

But since less than 1% of design engineers provide models for the steel frame,

Detailers using  Advance Steel will be the ones who actually be providing it, not the opposite.

This is the only way their idea can succeed.

I hope they read this and think about it:

Is it better to wait for a design engineer to provide model for the steel (99% don't use Revit and will never be, they do not include model in their price unless Revit is completely implemented),

or to rely on steel detailers, who understand the job and can provide 100% accurate models, the price for which is already included in the bid.

Autodesk will lose big if they retire AS.

Have a great day.

Hi @ZHUKOV_ING ,

yes you are correct we are bringing our first version of a towers designers with the PowerPack for Advance Steel in 2024,  that was in our news release last week, that you spotted,  Graitec to continue bringing value and support to Advance Steel

just working on our what new document at the moment :

johnjmbennett_0-1680536073494.png

we are still testing it,  as it is in beta,  but the aim is to bring this version to enable the easier modelling of the overall tower structures, with a view to bring further enhancements in later versions driven by user engagement,  we are trying see if there is a market for this type of macro within the AS user base,   I have seen these kind of structures modelled by AS users,  and several of them where kind enough to share with us their initial inputs to this idea.
anyway here's a quick no frills video I just made of a very quick run though of the tower basics.

Further updates to follow,  please be patient a little bit longer.

Hi john

I'm very interested in this, if you need some input or my opinion you can contact me ... I'm teaching Special steel structures (towers and masts) at the university and also i'am a designer of lattice towers for our state electrical company...

These are only 2 towers made in AS by me...

If somehow i can help , just contact me ...

Congratulations Graitec for making great tools for Advance Steel!!

Please clarify how the Graitec NEW tools will work in the next versions on an obsolete AD Advance Steel platform? Because AD said is not going to do major improvements.

@fcorte

From what I read in the statement, the platform will be keep current to follow its core of autocad, there is no mention of it being obsolete.

Autodesk is committed to maintaining Advance Steel’s existing features and quality, as well as providing support for our partners, 3rd parties and user communities who continue to add value to Advance Steel’.

there is no mention of it being obsolete, for the immediate time they are asking for support from partners to continue to add to the value of the platform via apps,  which the last time I checked is the way the whole world works, you get a platform service and then 3rd party developers add functions and feature via API developed apps.

therefore from our point of view nothing changed, as I previously stated we continue with supporting the user base with Powerpack and our local support teams and thorough social media platforms and forums, where we freely share our knowledge.

I said to some earlier today, it’s only like any company assigning a resource to a get a task done, so that means something else has to stop in the meantime, does not mean it is obsolete, it’s just going along as normal.

things change, things evolve, the world moved on in recent years with the changes in working practices and how and where people work and with whom.

Progress can be a challenge for everyone, but without we will not evolve.

Thanks for the clarification!

I hope AD's focus will soon come back, and be part of the Advance Steel improvements.

Hi @johnjmbennett,

many thanks for your feedback to this new feature for Transmission towers. Our company has been on the market for more than 100 years and so far in my career I have not come across a better finished SW for this type of steel structures than Advance Steel (many others tested). Now I'm looking forward to tasting something new from your workshop. I hope you will not disappoint me (us) - the tool tested in 2016 for the Swiss market was not very applicable. I'm waiting for a real bomb 😉😀

One thing interests me (us) right now - what version of Advance Steel is the new tool based on? If Advance Steel is not further developed by Autodesk or others, or in the worst case completely discontinued, where and what guarantee do we have of the future usability of such a tool? What other platform would you consider?

Thank you in advance

I can learn new software if I have to quickly, and I will never lose because I know what I am doing.

Hi @acbsdesign,

optimistic view in the future  ... because hope dies last. In 2016, I had the opportunity to test Advance Steel and Tekla Structures, and I can only confirm your conclusions.

@bigcarl5000kg , currently we are testing in 2023 and will continue to test in coming version, due soon I believe, as it normally follows after the main ACAD release.

this is graitec technology and our product, delivered as part of the powerpack,  this is the first version and as previously stated, we are looking for further feedback that is constructive to drive the development of the tool forward in a direction that is user driven,  currently we have made some decisions based upon structural design considerations and parameters, but as with all things, there is that detailers eye needed to refine and hone a tool to achieve an optimum workflow.

as this is graitec technology , we may choose to take this to our analysis and design platform, advance design, if the user market response requests such an workflow of linking design intent and analysis of structural integrity.     For detailing, as we stated we are supporting the Autodesk advance steel platform and the user base of that platform.

But like everything,  as cloud and modelling tools evolve, then as any other business model this will evolve to accommodate the market needs,  but unfortunately  I do not have a deloren  to see into the future, or even get back to the future 🙂

Looks like there have been a huge amount of hours and effort put into this new transmission tower macro.
