Hello everyone,

I was thinking that it would be a good idea to post some pictures with our projects. If it's possible, model pictures and the actual building that's been build.

@acbsdesign Curved & twisted plates are my favorite!! I love it! A little further North up the shore is my pride and joy. Wavewall at Navy Pier.  Most challenging glass railing I have done also lol.  I was literally onsite twice a week defending my honor. You know how it goes, lol, it seems it's always the detailers fault. Guilty until we prove our innocents.

Here's my best "career showcase project" to date. I hope it isn't too long before one comes along that beats this one.  I would start all over again tomorrow if anyone wants one of these lol. I even worked in shop fabricating this one too.

Awesome job Mark! Glad to see someone else here that still fabricates and details.

P.S. Does your whole shop have a dirt floor? I surely don't miss those days.

Thanks! It is not my design though. I just had to take the architects wet dream and make it reality.

Thanks! I was a fabricator for years until I let a detailer friend talk me into detailing. Autocad R14 is when I got onboard. Dirt floors do suck. We've been pouring concrete last few years so it's not as bad.

Hi,

impressive work! So many screws and holes. Did u have to split the model or was it all in 1 dwg till the end?

If i work with so many bolts my model gets very slow and it is almost impossible to handle it.

Hi, How are you. It was a few times larger model for 4 stations total. All in one model. Thousands of folded plates, cuts, bolts.

I work with Apexx by Boxx, no issues with the size of the model due to bolts or cuts. No issues even  if I open with in HPZ workstation that is getting older. Just slightly slower. There may be something going on in your model. If you want send me a test model to see if it behaves that way on my workstation.

im fine thank you! Very nice and impressive that u can handle those large structures.

Im asking because we repair some old bridges from the early 20th century here in germany. Those bridges are often rivet structures and we dont model the rivet unless we have to.

The last bridge a colleague of mine build in advance steel was very slow. He modelled every rivet or bold into the model.In the end we had to split it into many parts to create some shop drawings etc.

These were our early advance steel days, so its possible there were some errors in the 3d-model. But it feels if your model gets larger than 5 MB u feel that there is something wrong. Your machine has the power to handle it but advance steel only uses 1 cpu and u can do nothing about it.

Here is a model i created without any bolts or rivets created in AS 2020.

@s_hannemann Nice bridge, Bridge repairs are something special. Maybe if you change the representation of the bolts this may improve the speed. AS2022 has a nice feature to convert bolts to holes, so if no existing bolt is necessary to be present in the model we can convert to holes only, just a guess...Keep us posted, it is nice to see different projects in one place.

My last project - 380kV lattice transmission tower, ~ 200 tons total weight; 56,5m total height; bottom width 10,3m / total width 33m; main lattice structure camber pyramid 300mm/m bottom part / 90mm/m upper part; cross sections with 3mm/m assembly camber:

1603 profiles (material S355J2, L50x5 - L250x28)

1455 plates (material S355J2+N, thickness 8 - 40mm)

9030 screws (class 5.6, M16 - M30)

1109 welded joints
