adding a 2d sketch with construction lines

i am wondering how to go about adding a sketch with construction lines in advance steel so later i can use those intersects

as points for bolt holes

i added lines then used the offset command

is that the correct proceedure when doing this in advance steel

You don’t need to do that,  bolt/holes/studs Work from dedicated setting out points, depending upon which one you choose.

 

typically. Bottom left and then set x and y edges then Inter distances.  
If you use the centre type then pick the Center node of the plate.

 

typically bolts are spaced via macros to meet gauge lines or  plates holes/bolts match those with edge distances.

 

if you wish to check the setting Out outside of the macro us the autocad distance command. (DI)

 

also advance steel has a technical check to check min edge distances,  like here we tend to do. 1.5 d min to 2d.   M20 is 30mm , depends upon engineers spec etc.
