3D Solid Models smaller size?

Hi

Does anyone know how to get 3D models smaller in size? We know of the normal ways (Audit, purge, BREP, Etc.).

We heard rumors of guys converting 3D Solid Models to open in Navisworks and then converting back to dwg to make it very small, but not sure how they do it.

It is mainly when we do Block Plans for plants, bringing a few models into one drawing, it becomes so big (100000KB - 500000KB) that you can't open them or rotate them if they do open.

Hoping someone has a way...

Thanks

One thing i do is i copy a .dwt file and make some minor adjustments to it, delete layers i dont/wont ever use and modify/apply/remove line types using the ltype command.

I save that template file as something like ASKirkTemplate.dwt and use that for my models. I also run dgnpurge and -purge when things get weird. I make it a standard practice to always save in conceptual visual style before exiting the program because it's less work for the file and program to boot up do to less lines being displayed.

Finally, if things get crazy out of control, unmanageably slow, i'll perform a save as and create a backup file "in it's own separate folder" and try a recovery using the drawing utilities menu. Again, be sure to backup, just in case.   After this has been performed, save the file and exit. then reopen the program and see if it did anything!

As an absolute last resort, you can always run overkill. with a low tolerance. I start mine around 0.000006

Hi,

you wrote 3D Solids. If they cause the problems- parts created with CAD systems like inventor that you imported- then a solution is to reduce the complexity of the solids. That is done usually with shrinkwrap tools that those system have. So best is you get smaller solids.....
