Currently, there is no option to add references to takeoff types, which limits traceability and context—especially in complex estimating workflows. It would be highly beneficial to enable a feature that allows users to attach references directly to takeoff types. These references could include files, specification sections, or even links to other takeoff types in different packages.
This functionality would be especially powerful in scenarios where quantities are developed using external tools such as Excel or Civil 3D (C3D). In such cases, users could link or reference the source data directly to the takeoff type for validation and transparency. Additionally, teams often perform detailed takeoffs in separate packages—for example, generating granular signal quantities in one package to estimate cost, while including a lump sum bid item in the main package. With the ability to reference takeoff types across packages, users could maintain a clear audit trail, supporting more robust cost analysis and documentation. This enhancement would significantly improve collaboration, accountability, and data integrity across estimating workflows.
