TAKEOFF - Add Bulk Import Functionality for Takeoff Types

TAKEOFF - Add Bulk Import Functionality for Takeoff Types

I am currently building out an ACC Takeoff Project Template that includes custom classification systems for various clients and a full set of pre-generated takeoff types to ensure consistency across all projects. This template project serves as a centralized master list for takeoff items and is intended to streamline standardization and reduce duplication of effort.

However, a significant pain point has been the need to manually create each takeoff type one by one, including linking them to the correct classification system, defining custom formulas where applicable, setting the unit of measure (UOM), and applying other relevant configurations. This process is extremely time-consuming and repetitive—especially when dealing with a large number of items.

To address this, it would be a major improvement to introduce a bulk import feature for takeoff types. This could support importing from a structured format such as Excel or CSV, with fields for classification mapping, formulas, UOM, and other metadata. Such a feature would greatly improve efficiency when building or updating templates, reduce errors, and make it significantly easier to maintain standardized takeoff structures across projects.

Are you importing the Takeoff types from a previous project using this tool?

Yes, after manually creating each one in a "Template" project.
We are going all in as a company using ACC takeoff, and I am in the process of creating master bid items lists (mirrored as takeoff types and classification system 1) for each major client that we have (since each have unique needs).

For example, I have created a master list for Alberta Transportation (~857 takeoff types) and City of Calgary (~1121 takeoff types), that were manually created, one at a time, using the plus button adjacent to your red circle above.

This serves as a template to be imported into using the import button you circled above to import into real projects for immediate use. This provides consistency for each project.

The problem is that it took a LOT of time to manually create these takeoff types, one at a time, for the rest of the company to import from.

I am in the process of expanding this to 6 more clients / regions, which could be in the range of another 6000 manually created takeoff types (which could take 200-250 hours).

The idea above it is proposing that there is an import option, similar to the Classifications import, Assets import, or other Cost Management type imports, where we can fill in an excel spreadsheet to bulk create the takeoff types

I understand and agree to what you are requesting. We have around a similar amount of Takeoff Types that also required this to be created manually. Painful. They have recently released the ability to bulk upload Line items for Preconstruction in the Account Admin (Library).  However, this does not push to Takeoff yet and can only be used in Estimate so far. I am hoping that this feature will push through to Takeoff in the future, this would resolve what you are requesting. Additionally, from the library we could have the ability to bulk push through any changes to a project as well if there changes to the library line item. As currently you would have to go through every project to make changes to an import type in a project if say a mistake was made or you wanted to alter a formula.
