Improving ACC Coordination: Separate Transform Handling for Shared and Project Base Points

Improving ACC Coordination: Separate Transform Handling for Shared and Project Base Points

I’ve encountered challenges with model transforms when working between Navisworks and the ACC viewer, particularly on large industrial projects. Outside of model coordination I can transform models as I need for the project within Navisworks. One federated model set to Project Base Point while another federated model can be set to Shared coordinates. This for specific coordination purposes.

Current Limitations

  • Transform in ACC Views:
While the transform tool in ACC is easy to use, it applies universally to all views where the model is used, which is restrictive.

Project Context

  • The industrial projects I work on often require:
    • One federated model on shared coordinates.
    • Another model positioned on the project base point.
  • Revit and Civil 3D typically work with world coordinates.
  • Process and equipment models (from other software) depend on project base point coordinates due to limitations with distances.

Challenge in ACC

  • Currently, the ACC Coordination module appears to require a single model placement, making it difficult to support both coordination options (shared and project base point) simultaneously.

Suggested Enhancement

  • Enable Multiple Transform Settings:
Allow models to be referenced in multiple coordination spaces/views, each with its own transform setting (e.g., shared coordinates in one view, project base point in another).
  • Transform Synchronization:
Ensure that transforms applied in ACC are recognized and can be managed within both Navisworks and Revit, maintaining consistency across platforms.

Implementing these enhancements would greatly improve our ability to coordinate complex industrial projects within ACC.
