Engineering Change Order with no Budget

Engineering Change Order with no Budget

Currently, change orders are managed through Cost Management and are heavily focused on budget and timeline implications. Our team uses change orders during our design stage, before they have budget implications, to track requirement or design basis changes. Our company has multiple subteams that act as stakeholders for projects in other teams, meaning that before we create a budget or schedule, we are locking down requirements from all the stakeholders. Sometimes these have to change either because of new information gathered or conflicts between 2 requirements. We currently track this work using forms to submit an "official" request for the change. Having something similar to how Vault handles change orders would be amazing for the management of change when there are no timeline or budget implications.

Hello @spulidosardinas I don't know how Vault handles Change Orders but it is now possible to add $$ to PCOs without connecting to a budget

What our team would need is change orders that don't have any money associated with them. Engineering change orders that focus on changing the design basis before there is a set budget. But it is good to know that there is new functionality to explore.

So there is no budget and the changes are all $0 too?

It's just a change log?

Couldn't you just do that with PCOs?

The thing is, we sometimes have budget implications or a timeline, but not all the time. We will lock in some fundamental design decisions before we have a budget or timeline for the project, and when we enter the bidding process, we will decide whether to make changes that affect the safety or operation of the system. We will then go through a formal ECO process to ensure they are fully evaluated. Right now, we could use the built-in functionality for the changes with cost change, but the stuff that is fully without that just doesn't work well with the current workflow. We don't want to store our change orders in different locations, so we are using Forms as a workaround. I should aslo say we are not construction firm but we design and sell manufacturing system equipment. So before a client makes an order we have to give them and idea of the design of our system. I know that is technically different to what a lot of ACC users do.
