Category-Based Issue Numbering in Autodesk Construction Cloud (Build)

Category-Based Issue Numbering in Autodesk Construction Cloud (Build)

I’m reaching out to formally raise a feature enhancement request on behalf of our multiple clients in the Delhi region who are actively using the Issues module in Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC Build) across various departments such as Quality, Safety, and Design.

Currently, ACC assigns a global issue numbering pattern like #1, #2, #3, and so on across all issue types and categories. However, our clients have been consistently requesting a more structured and category-dependent numbering system. Specifically, they would like the ability to auto-generate issue numbers based on the Issue Type and Category, such as:

  • Quality-NC-001, Quality-NC-002
  • Quality-Obs-001, Quality-Obs-002
  • Safety-NC-001, Safety-Obs-001
  • Design-Obs-001, etc.

Key Advantages of Category-Based Issue Numbering:

  1. Improved Traceability and Organization
Issues are easier to locate, reference, and sort when the serial number directly reflects the category and type.
  2. Efficient Reporting and Analytics
Departments can generate clearer reports and metrics (e.g., number of NCs in Quality or Observations in Safety) without manual filtering or renumbering.
  3. Clarity During Reviews and Audits
Auditors and quality teams find it intuitive to track issues when the numbering logically aligns with their categorization.
  4. Elimination of Manual Workarounds
Clients currently resort to adding prefixes manually or maintaining parallel logs. This increases the risk of errors and inefficiency.
  5. Industry Alignment
Structured numbering based on category is already a standard practice in many organizations and aligns with ISO and internal audit practices.

We believe this enhancement will significantly improve user adoption and administrative efficiency, especially on large-scale projects with high issue volume and inter-department collaboration.

We look forward to your thoughts on this and hope this request can be considered for future updates or a possible workaround in the meantime.
