Box and Fence Selection for Clashes in Coordination Space

Box and Fence Selection for Clashes in Coordination Space

Feature Request: Box and Fence Selection for Clashes in Coordination Space

Description: Introduce Box Selection and Fence Selection tools in the coordination space to enable users to quickly select and isolate clashes within a defined area, especially when dealing with many small elements such as pipes inside insulation, ducts, or other closely spaced MEP and structural components that often indicate a single clash. Currently, clicking and selecting these elements one by one is often impractical, especially in complex models.

  • Box Selection: Allows users to draw a rectangular selection box around an area to isolate clashes within that space, ideal for quickly selecting many small components in a defined region.
  • Fence Selection: Offers a freeform, customizable selection boundary to better target areas with irregular or complex layouts, perfect for handling situations where a single clash is indicated by many tiny, interconnected elements.

Key Benefits:

  • Efficiency: Users can quickly select and isolate all elements within a given area, reducing the time spent on selecting each individual item.
  • Improved Workflow: Helps streamline the clash detection and resolution process, particularly in scenarios where many small elements (e.g., pipes, cables, ducts) are involved in a single clash.
  • Greater Precision: The ability to use Box or Fence Selection allows for easy identification of small, closely spaced elements that are part of one larger clash, improving coordination without having to select each element individually.
  • Enhanced User Experience: In large, complex models with dense MEP and structural elements, this functionality ensures that no crucial clash gets overlooked, even when individual elements are hard to select manually.

Use Case Example:

  • In an MEP model, a clash might be caused by pipes inside insulation or multiple ducts running close together. Instead of selecting each pipe or duct individually, users could use Box or Fence Selection to highlight the entire area of interest, making it much faster to identify and resolve the clash.

When using the cross fence for selecting elements to run an interference check on in Revit 2023.1, the fence grabs the ductwork that has insulation on it.  However, in the list created for interference check, duct insulation is not included.  Why is that?  I need to make sure the duct insulation is not in conflict with the structural elements.
