Barcode/QR Code Generation for Locations in Build

Barcode/QR Code Generation for Locations in Build

Product Name: Autodesk Build - Locations Feature Summary:

Requesting the ability to generate and print barcodes or QR codes for Locations within Autodesk Build. For consistency, barcodes and QR codes will be referred to as the same in this document. This functionality would be similar to the feature available in Procore, which allows users to create and print barcodes directly from the system without the need for external software.

Current Limitation:

Autodesk Build does not currently offer any built-in capabilities to create QR codes. The only automated functionality related to QR codes is the ability to import QR code numbers when importing Locations via an Excel spreadsheet. As a result, users are forced to rely on external software, which has several limitations:

  • While advertised as free, the recommended external software only allows a limited number of free QR codes before requiring a subscription.
  • It only supports generating QR codes one at a time, making it inefficient for large projects requiring 200+ codes.

There is no integration between the external software and Autodesk Build, raising concerns about how these codes are linked.

Proposed Solution:

To improve efficiency, Autodesk Build should have a built-in feature that allows users to generate and print QR codes directly from the Locations module.

This feature should:

  • Provide a "Print QR Code" option within each location.
  • Automatically generate QR codes from the location name, eliminating manual entry.
  • Support batch generation of multiple QR codes at once.
  • Format the codes for printing on standard Avery labels.
  • Offer seamless integration within Build to ensure proper linking between the QR code and the corresponding Location.

Use Case / Impact:

Implementing this feature would provide significant efficiency gains by eliminating the need for external software and manual processes.

Benefits include:

  • Reducing the time spent on generating QR codes, especially for large-scale projects.
  • Ensuring seamless integration between location data and the QR codes.
  • Simplifying the printing process, allowing users to print labels directly from Autodesk Build.
  • Minimizing errors that arise from external data imports and manual input.

Examples & Industry Comparisons:

Procore has already mastered this functionality by allowing users to generate barcodes directly from the location name. Their system eliminates the need for Excel imports and external QR code generators. Users simply click “Print,” and the system generates and prints barcodes directly onto Avery labels, which can be adhered to doorframes. Procore also supports batch printing, with a limitation of 500 codes per batch.

Conclusion:

By incorporating a similar feature in Autodesk Build, users would have a streamlined and integrated solution that significantly improves workflow efficiency.

Much needed! This would be very powerful and would align with what is being produced with "Assets"

100% agree that this should exist. It's already within Assets. Why not in Locations?
